DescriptionThe whole story▼
Even the bracket is carbon fibre. On most silencers the mounting bracket is a piece of steel nobody looks at; here the sleeve, the end cap and the bracket are all hand-laid carbon, and that is a large part of how 5.08 kg becomes 2.48.
Key Features
- 2.48 kg against the standard 5.08 kg: 2.6 kg and 51.2 per cent less
- Handmade carbon fibre outer sleeve, end cap and muffler bracket
- High-grade stainless steel inner structure and link pipe
- Carbon fibre heat shield to protect the rider's gear
- Hexagonal muffler — Akrapovic's own signature shape rather than a generic cylinder
- 1.1 PS more at 9,200 rpm and 0.8 Nm more at 5,100 rpm
- EC and ECE type approved
The Hexagon on a New Motorcycle
Kawasaki replaced the Z900 with the Z1100 for 2025, moving to 1,099 cc. The bike is bigger and heavier than what it replaced, and its standard exhaust reflects that: 5.08 kg of double-skinned steel sized around Euro 5+ noise limits.
The hexagonal shape Akrapovic has used since 2005 is the visual answer, and on a naked bike with nothing hiding the tail it is the whole reason many owners choose this part. It is not a styling detail bolted onto a round muffler — the carbon body is hexagonal in cross-section throughout.
Carbon Everywhere It Can Be
Carbon fibre is light but sensitive to heat and impact, which is why most systems use it only for the outer sleeve and end cap. Here Akrapovic extends it to the bracket as well, and keeps the inner structure and link pipe in stainless steel where the gas is hottest and the vibration worst.
That split is what makes 51.2 per cent possible without giving up durability. The heat shield, also carbon, sits between the body and the rider's boot.
Where the Gains Sit
1.1 PS at 9,200 rpm and 0.8 Nm at 5,100 rpm on a 128 PS four are modest, and they are stated as measured. Peak output moves from 127.8 to 128.5 PS. Nobody should buy this silencer for the dyno sheet — the case is 2.6 kg off the tail, the hexagon and the sound.
What Stays Standard
The header, the catalytic converter and the engine management are untouched, no remapping is needed, and the original silencer bolts straight back on. On a motorcycle this new that matters: a Z1100 sold on within its first years is worth more with the standard parts in the box.
Carbon on a Bike Parked Outside
One honest caveat about the material. Carbon fibre is lighter than titanium and it is what makes 51.2 per cent possible, but it is less forgiving of a hard knock and of long exposure to UV than a coated metal sleeve. If your Z1100 lives under a cover or in a garage, this is the better choice; if it stands on the street year-round, the trade is worth thinking about before ordering.
