DescriptionThe whole story▼
The BMW K1600 GTL is the most luxurious of BMW's six-cylinder tourers, with a top box, a generous passenger seat and finishes that owners like to keep immaculate. Anyone who has refuelled one knows the moment of concentration at the filler: a large tank and paintwork that shows every drip. At closed-ground events, where fuel comes from a can rather than a pump nozzle, that moment calls for even more care. Accossato's FC103, a quick-release cap for the GTL of 2010 to 2016, is machined from aluminium and has a coloured pawl.

Construction and Material Quality
Accossato makes this cap entirely from CNC-machined aluminium and describes it as robust and durable. Its design is new. The cap opens and closes via a quick-closing pawl, which keeps the tank of the K1600 GTL open for no longer than necessary. There are six colours to choose from for that pawl. If it is ever damaged, it is available on its own, so the cap can stay.
Fuel, Paint and Patience
Fuel is unkind to paint and to some plastics, and as it evaporates it can leave a dull ring if it is not wiped away. When filling the K1600 GTL from a can, stand the bike upright on level ground so that the tank sits level and the fuel does not run to one side. Lay a cloth around the filler before you open the FC103, pour slowly through a clean funnel and stop before the fuel reaches the neck. Then close the pawl, check that the cap is shut all round and lift the cloth away carefully. Wipe any drops that reached the paint straight away and dab the area with a little clean water. Keep the can away from the hot engine and exhaust, and never refuel with the ignition on or with anyone smoking nearby. It may sound fussy, but on a bike finished to the GTL's standard, a careful routine is what keeps it looking right.
Fitment and Compatibility
In Accossato's application list the K 1600 GTL is entered from 2010 to 2016, and in our garage the same listing also covers the GTL Exclusive. It also appears in our shop for the K1600 GT and the R1200R. Before ordering, check the model year of your K1600 GTL against Accossato's list.
Road Approval
The FC103 carries no German ABE and no parts certificate; we sell it for track and closed-ground use. The K1600 GTL's original cap, which normally needs the ignition key, is the right one for public roads.
