DescriptionThe whole story▼
With the R 1250 GS, BMW gave its big adventure boxer the ShiftCam engine and kept everything that made the GS a default choice for long journeys. Some owners use it for weekend loops; others ship it to another continent and ride for months on roads where the next BMW dealer is days away. On trips like that, a dropped bike is rarely a disaster, but any damage has to be lived with until the next proper workshop. Accossato catalogues its PF048 for the R 1250 GS of 2019: two front axle sliders in black, made of aluminium and plastic.
Key Features
- Front axle sliders for the BMW R 1250 GS, 2019
- Accossato code PF048, finished in black
- Made from aluminium and plastic
- Two protectors, one each side
- Spacers, screws and the other mounting parts are in the kit, according to Accossato
- Can take the first contact in a fall and help reduce damage around the front axle
- No German ABE on record; for track and competition use
Construction and Material Quality
Accossato combines aluminium with plastic for the PF048 and delivers it in black. You get two, one for each side of the fork, and the kit carries spacers, screws and every other piece the maker regards as necessary for mounting. That makes it a job for an afternoon at home before departure rather than something to improvise abroad. Beyond those points the description stays general: it says nothing about where exactly the protectors sit on the R 1250 GS, and we do not fill the gap with guesswork.
Far from the Next Workshop
Overlanders learn to think in terms of what can be fixed at the roadside. A bent lever can be straightened and a torn pannier strapped, but damage at the bottom of the front suspension is another matter when the nearest dealer is across a border. Many drops on a long trip happen at a standstill or at walking pace: on a steep, rutted hotel drive, in deep gravel at a border post, or when the side stand sinks into soft ground overnight. A fully loaded R 1250 GS goes over slowly but heavily. Sliders at the front axle are a small, replaceable layer between the bike and the ground. Fit them at home, ride for a few days and then recheck every screw before you leave. Some travellers keep spare screws in the toolkit. After any fall on the road, inspect the sliders and their mounting before riding on, and plan to replace a damaged one when you next reach a town with parts.
Fitment and Compatibility
The list gives the PF048 for the R 1250 GS of 2019 and shows no later years, so if your bike is newer, ask us before ordering. In our garage the part appears under the R 1250 GS and under the R 1250 GS Rallye, a style of the same model; Rallye owners are welcome to have us confirm the fit. The PF048 is also catalogued for the R 1200 GS and the R 1200 GS Adventure. After fitting, turn the bars through their full travel and spin the front wheel: nothing may touch the calipers, the discs or the wheel.
Road Approval
For the PF048 we hold no German ABE and no test documentation. It is therefore sold for competition and racing use.
