DescriptionThe whole story▼
Before the first ride of spring, a Kawasaki Z650 deserves a proper look at its brakes. Months of standing, damp garages and the last wet rides of autumn all leave their marks on the front discs. Accossato's DK236 is a floating front disc from the Elite line for the Z650 of 2017 to 2021 and for the Z650 S of 2026. It measures 300 mm across and 142 mm at the inner diameter, and at 5 mm it is as thick as the original disc; the carrier is black.

Construction and Material Quality
Accossato builds the DK236 as a floating disc. The outer braking ring and the black carrier are two separate parts, linked by rivets that carry the Accossato logo and allow the ring a little movement, so that heat can expand it without bending the carrier. The Elite line keeps the thickness of the original, which on this disc is 5 mm. Accossato explains that the design and choice of materials draw on its racing experience, and that it paid particular attention to the tolerances between carrier and ring; it also sees the low weight of its discs as an advantage when steering.
Brake Check Before the Season
Start with the obvious: look at both front discs of the Z650 in good light. Surface rust after the winter is normal and wipes off with the first stops, but pitting in the braking band, a pronounced lip at the rim or deep grooves are reasons to measure. Compare the thinnest point with the minimum printed on the disc. Check the pads, too, and remember that pads which have soaked up moisture or been contaminated over the winter may not brake as they did in autumn.
Then turn the wheel by hand and listen. A light, even whisper of the pads is normal; a rhythmic rubbing points to a disc that runs out of true. On a floating disc like this one, the rivets may allow a little play, which is normal, but look for cracks around the rivet holes. Finish with the brake fluid: if it is dark or overdue according to the service schedule, have it changed. Only then should the first ride of the season begin, and even then with a few gentle stops before the first real bend.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists the DK236 for the Kawasaki Z650 from 2017 to 2021 and again for 2026, when the Z650 S appears on its list; the years in between are not listed. The Z650 of 2017 to 2021 has two front discs, and the price here is for one; for the 2026 Z650 S, check how many discs your bike carries before ordering. Accossato also lists the EDF021 brake lever and the ESK750 clutch lever for the Z650.
Road Approval
No German ABE is on record for the DK236, and no type approval has been documented. It is sold for use on the track.
