DescriptionThe whole story▼

Close the throttle on a four-stroke motocrosser and the engine slows the bike noticeably. On a Yamaha YZ125 the same move has far less effect: a two-stroke has little engine braking, so the brakes, above all the front disc, take on more of the work of slowing down. Accossato lists the DK268 for the YZ125 from 2015 to 2023. It is a fixed front disc, made of steel in one piece, 270 mm in diameter and 3 mm thick.

Key Features

  • Fixed front disc for the Yamaha YZ125, 2015 to 2023
  • One-piece steel disc from Accossato's off-road range
  • 270 mm outside diameter, 118 mm centre bore
  • 3 mm thick; minimum thickness printed on the disc
  • Six 6.5 mm holes on a 134 mm hole circle
  • Interchangeable with the original equipment disc, per Accossato
  • No German ABE on record; for competition

Construction and Material Quality

The DK268 is a single steel part. Its 270 mm braking surface, 118 mm centre and six 6.5 mm fixing holes on a 134 mm circle all belong to the same 3 mm disc. Accossato describes it as interchangeable with the disc Yamaha fits. The company attributes the effectiveness of its discs to studied tolerances and a careful choice of raw materials, an approach it says grew out of Superbike, Moto2 and Moto3.

Where the Engine Does Not Help

Riders switching from a four-stroke to a YZ125 often run wide at the first corners, because the bike does not slow down the way they expect when they roll off. The answer is not to brake harder but more deliberately: set the speed with the front brake in a straight line, release smoothly as you tip in, and use the rear to settle the bike. A 125 two-stroke rewards carrying speed through corners, so good riders brake less often but precisely, and they rely on the front disc to do it every time.

That dependence shows in the maintenance. A YZ125 ridden hard wears its front pads and disc at a steady rate, and without the help an engine gives on a bigger four-stroke, the disc also sees more heat per corner. Watch for a lever that comes closer to the bar as a moto goes on; that usually points to fluid that is getting too hot or is due for a change. Check the pads after every race weekend and measure the disc now and then against the minimum printed on it. A disc that has worn thin heats up faster and, as Accossato warns, can break under extreme stress.

Fitment and Compatibility

Accossato lists the DK268 for the YZ125 from 2015 to 2023 as a replacement for the original front disc. The older DK111 is listed up to 2017 and the larger, floating DK269 from 2017 to 2023, so compare the disc on your bike before choosing. The YZ125 uses one front disc, and one DK268 is enough. Fit it with new pads and bed them in over the first laps.

Road Approval

There is no German ABE and no type approval for the DK268; it is supplied for motocross and closed-course competition.
