DescriptionThe whole story▼

The XJ6 served as Yamaha's accessible middleweight naked for years, a sensible choice for riders who wanted four cylinders without the running costs or insurance premium of something sportier, and plenty were bought as a practical way to get to work and back every day of the week. Winter commuting on the XJ6 means dealing with roads gritted against ice, and that grit builds up in corners and at junctions, reducing grip in a way that is hard to judge until the rear tyre has already begun to slide. Accossato lists its TP057 crash pads for the XJ6 of 2009 to 2016.

Key Features

  • Crash pads for the Yamaha XJ6, 2009 to 2016
  • Accossato TP057, two pads per pack
  • CNC-machined aluminium body
  • Anodised insert in blue, green, black, red, silver or gold
  • Matching screw cover available as an option
  • Same code also listed for the Yamaha XJ6 Diversion
  • Ask us before ordering whether drilling is needed
  • No German ABE on file; for racing and competition use

Construction and Material Quality

The TP057 body is machined from aluminium and finished with an anodised insert in one of six colours, with a matching screw cover available for those who order it. Two pads make up the set. On a bike ridden daily through all weathers, the pads sit near the frame, ready to be the first thing that meets the ground if the bike tips, which can lessen what the frame rails nearby take as a result. Once a pad has clearly absorbed a knock, it should be swapped for a new one.

Gritted Corners on a Winter Commute

Councils grit the roads to keep ice at bay, but the same grit collects at junctions and on the inside of corners where traffic naturally slows, forming a loose, gravelly layer that offers far less grip than the clear tarmac either side of it. A rider on the XJ6 who leans into a familiar roundabout at a familiar speed can find the rear stepping out with little warning if that corner happens to be one where grit has built up overnight. Riding more upright through known gritted sections, and braking in a straight line before turning rather than mid-corner, both reduce the risk through winter. If the XJ6 does slide on gritted tarmac, the crash pads take the first contact; check them, the wheels and the levers before continuing the commute.

Fitment and Compatibility

For the XJ6, Accossato's own catalogue runs the TP057 from 2009 to 2016, which is the span our listing uses. This same code is also listed in our shop against the XJ6 Diversion. Since Accossato's wider list calls for drilling on some unnamed motorcycles, check with us before ordering whether it applies to your bike; no other Accossato protection part is listed for this model.

Road Approval

We have no ABE or test certificate on file for the TP057, so it is supplied for racing and competition use.

Scope of Delivery
