DescriptionThe whole story▼
Handguards are among the first accessories many adventure riders fit, and they share the end of the handlebar with the levers. On the KTM 1090 Adventure, the road-focused sibling of the 1090 Adventure R with the same V-twin engine, that shared space deserves a thought whenever a lever is replaced. The Accossato ESA090 is a CNC-machined aluminium clutch lever for the 1090 Adventure, listed from 2017 to 2019, with an adjustable reach and three blade lengths to choose from.
Key Features
- Clutch lever for the KTM 1090 Adventure, 2017 to 2019
- Fits the original clutch mounting
- Short blade for the most clearance inside handguards
- Standard blade approximately 138 mm, long blade for four fingers
- Reach adjustable
- Anodised CNC-machined aluminium, black hub, seven blade colours
- No folding joint
Construction and Material Quality
Accossato cuts the ESA090 from aluminium on CNC machines and anodises it afterwards. The finish is two-tone: black on the hub, which holds the pivot and the reach adjuster, and a colour of your choice on the blade. Anodising turns the surface of the aluminium into a hard oxide, so where a glove or the edge of a handguard brushes against the blade, there is no layer of paint waiting to chip. The lever has no folding joint; it is one rigid part from end to end.
Handguards and Blade Length
Handguards protect the hands from wind, rain and branches, and in a tip-over the wraparound kind can shield the ends of the levers. They also create a boundary. A lever that reaches almost to the end of the bar can touch the inside of a guard at full pull, and a clutch that cannot be pulled all the way in may not disengage completely. So before choosing a blade length, look at the room between the lever tip and the guard on your 1090 Adventure. The short ESA090 leaves the most space and suits two-finger clutch work; the standard blade is the one to start with if you are unsure; the long one, offered in blue, gold, green and orange, gives four fingers more to hold but needs the most clearance. Whatever you choose, pull the lever fully in with the handlebar at both steering locks after fitting, and make sure nothing touches.
Orange or Not
Orange is the obvious colour on a KTM and one of the four blade colours made in every length. Black suits riders who would rather keep the cockpit dark, and silver goes well with bare aluminium handguards.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato's list names the ESA090 for the Adventure 1090 and for two versions it calls L and S. We offer it for the real model years of the 1090 Adventure, from its launch for 2017 to 2019; Accossato's entry for the standard bike opens a little before that launch. The lever takes the place of the stock one at the original clutch mounting. No Accossato brake lever is listed for this model.
Road Approval
The ESA090 has no documented German ABE, which is why it is sold for track use.
