DescriptionThe whole story▼
Supermoto-style bikes attract tall riders, and the Dorsoduro 900 with its high seat and roomy riding position is no exception. Tall riders tend to bring long fingers and large gloves, and in such a hand a standard clutch lever can feel short, with the fingertips hanging over the end of the blade. The Accossato ESC023 clutch lever for the Dorsoduro 900 of 2017 to 2020 is available with a long blade as well as a standard and a short one, and its distance to the grip can be adjusted.
Key Features
- Clutch lever for the Aprilia Dorsoduro 900, 2017 to 2020
- Replaces the original lever at the stock clutch mounting
- Long blade in blue, gold, green or orange for large hands
- Standard blade, about 138 mm, in all seven colours; short blade in five
- Reach adjuster beside the pivot
- Milled aluminium, anodised; black hub
- No hinge: a rigid, one-piece lever
- Sold for the track, as no German ABE is documented
Construction and Material Quality
Every ESC023 begins as a block of aluminium that is milled to shape on CNC machines. Working from the solid rather than from a casting gives consistent strength along the blade, which matters on a long version where your fingers pull close to the far end. The anodised finish is two-tone: the hub with the pivot and the reach adjuster is black, and the blade carries the colour. The design is rigid, the blade running uninterrupted to its tip with no folding joint in between.
Big Hands, Long Blade
For a large hand, the first question is simply space. A long blade gives three or four fingers room side by side, so the little finger no longer hangs off the end or rests on the rounded tip, and heavy gloves with thick seams still fit. The second effect comes for free: the point where you pull moves further from the pivot, which makes the clutch feel lighter. For a tall rider spending a whole day on the Dorsoduro 900, both add up to less effort each time the lever comes in.
Reach matters for big hands too, only in the opposite direction. Where riders with small hands bring the blade inwards, riders with long fingers often move it outwards, so the fingers meet the lever near its end with a gentle bend instead of curling tightly around it. Try the setting seated in your normal riding position with gloves on, then ride a short loop to see where the friction point now falls. The long blade is made in blue, gold, green and orange. If you prefer black, red or silver, the standard length of about 138 mm is the one to choose.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato's list gives 2017 to 2020 for the ESC023 on the Dorsoduro 900, where it replaces the stock item at the original clutch mounting. The brake lever for the same bike, the EDF023, is listed one year longer, up to 2021. Both share the black hub and the colour range, so the two levers on your Dorsoduro 900 can match even if you choose different lengths for the two hands.
Road Approval
No documented German ABE exists for this clutch lever. It is therefore offered for closed-circuit riding.
