DescriptionThe whole story▼
Triumph took the Thruxton name from a circuit in Hampshire where its production twins raced in the 1960s, and the R version of 2016 keeps the racer's posture: low clip-ons, weight forward, and a front brake that does most of the slowing down. The Accossato EDF099 is a machined aluminium brake lever for the Thruxton 1200 R of 2016 to 2019. It mounts on the original master cylinder, and the reach is yours to set.
Key Features
- Brake lever for the Triumph Thruxton 1200 R, model years 2016 to 2019
- Replaces the stock lever on the original master cylinder
- Adjustable distance to the grip, set close to the pivot
- Short, standard or long blade; the standard version is approximately 138 mm
- Black and red in standard length only, silver in standard or short
- CNC-machined from solid aluminium and anodised, black hub
- Rigid blade without a folding joint
- No German ABE documented, sold for track use
Construction and Material Quality
The EDF099 begins as a solid piece of aluminium that Accossato mills to shape on CNC machines and then anodises in two colours: black for the hub, the working end with the pivot and the adjuster, and whichever colour you order for the blade. Milling from the solid gives the lever an even cross-section along its whole length, so it does not give more at one point than at another under a hard pull. Nothing along it is hinged. The travel you feel at your fingertips is the travel of the master cylinder, with no second joint adding slack of its own.
Braking and Blipping in One Hand
On a standard Thruxton R, matching the engine speed on a downshift is still a job for the rider, and the classic technique gives the right hand two tasks at once. Two fingers keep a steady pressure on the brake lever while the palm and the remaining fingers roll the throttle open for an instant, lifting the revs so the lower gear goes in without a jolt at the rear wheel. That only works if the brake pressure stays constant while the wrist turns, and the position of the blade decides it. Set the reach so that your two braking fingers rest on it with the rest of the hand still wrapped around the grip, and the throttle can move without disturbing the brake. The short blade suits this style, because it ends before the ring finger and leaves the throttle side of the grip clear; whole-hand brakers will prefer the standard or long blade.
Fitment and Compatibility
The EDF099 is matched by Accossato to the Thruxton 1200 R from 2016 to 2019. Its list files these bikes under the name Thruxton 900 R, but the years are those of the liquid-cooled R introduced in 2016; if unsure, compare your original lever and master cylinder with the product photos. The Thruxton 1200 without the R has a listing of its own, and the left side of the R is covered by the EST333P clutch lever.
Road Approval
For this lever on the Thruxton R there is no German ABE on record, which is why it is sold as a part for track use.
Scope of Delivery
Inside the Accossato box you will find a single brake lever, with the blade in the colour and length you picked.
