Four suffixes share this line of the catalogue. On the 2018 to 2022 Tiger Explorer the XR and XRt are the road-biased builds, the XCx and XCa carry the spoked wheels and the off-road equipment, and all four breathe through the same airbox and the same part number. That is what matters before choosing a medium: the badge on the side panel describes suspension, wheels and electronics, not the air the engine will be asked to swallow. The Sprint Filter T12 is the most specialised medium in the range — dry polyester special non-woven, 7 microns, a rated 560 l/m²/sec — and whether it suits your bike is settled by the ground you ride on, not by the letters after the model name.
Key Features
- 7-micron filtration in a dry polyester special non-woven — the finest step in the Sprint Filter range
- Never oiled, so no film travels downstream to the sensors or the throttle bodies
- Rated 560 l/m²/sec, for extreme conditions, off-road running and desert dust
- The standard airbox stays unmodified, and there is no remap and no paperwork
- At every service it is cleaned with compressed air and refitted, not bought again
- The date of purchase starts a two-year warranty
The suffix is equipment, not intake
An XCa and an XR can stand side by side with identical airboxes and completely different lives. If yours mainly covers tarmac with the occasional forest track, the fine non-woven is buying retention you rarely need at a flow cost you carry every second: the P08 at 80 microns and 5,050 l/m²/sec is the appropriate part, and the P14 at 14 microns and 1,800 l/m²/sec sits in between for mixed use. If your XCx spends weeks a year on dirt and gravel in convoy, the arithmetic inverts, and the PM202T12 is the reason this medium exists at all.
Deciding from your own filter, not from a brochure
The advantage of a washable element is that the question stops being theoretical after one season. Take it out, look at it, and you have a reading of your own riding rather than a category assigned to you. A paper element gives you the same information once, and only in exchange for buying another, which is why most riders never look. Worth saying plainly: none of this makes a standard 1200 triple noticeably stronger. What changes is that the intake restriction returns to its starting value each time the element is cleaned, instead of moving in one direction between services.
Care and cleaning
Ordinary use is covered by compressed air alone, blown through the element from the clean side outwards. A dirty week earns a wash in lukewarm water with a mild detergent, rinsed until the water runs clear, then a complete dry in the open air. Heat and flame stay away, and it is never fitted damp. Oil plays no part at any stage. The maintenance sheet sits in the Downloads tab.
Fitment & Compatibility
Made for the Triumph Tiger Explorer XCx, XCa, XR and XRt built from 2018 to 2022. The same element is shared across six Tiger Explorer listings, including the earlier XC and XCx machines listed as 1215; the complete list is in the Fitment tab.
