This is the one machine on the fitment list the medium was actually drawn for. The RC 390 R is a competition model, and what makes the P08 F1-85 a poor choice elsewhere in this family — a weave opened from 80 microns to 85 in exchange for 15,000 litres per square metre per second instead of 5,050 — becomes a defensible trade on a bike run on a swept surface, in short sessions, with an engine on a rebuild interval rather than a service interval. The conditions are the argument, and they are worth stating rather than assuming.
Key Features
- Sprint Filter's racing weave: dry polyester, 85 µm, 15,000 l/m²/sec
- Three times the flow of the standard P08, at five microns more open
- Never oiled, so there is nothing to reapply between sessions and nothing to migrate
- Original airbox, original mounting, nothing to redo before scrutineering
- Blown through in minutes and refitted immediately, session after session
- Reusable for the life of the machine, with two years of cover from the purchase date
What has to be true for the trade to pay
Three things. The surface has to be clean, because the concession this medium makes is made in fine dust and a circuit produces little of it. The engine has to be opened often enough that whatever gets through never accumulates into wear. And the element has to be cleaned often, since the flow advantage belongs to an open weave, not to one left loaded since the last meeting. Where all three hold, the coarser mesh costs nothing measurable and the extra passage is there at the top of the range. Where any of them fails, the P08 at 80 microns is the better element.
The last link in the chain
It is worth keeping the size of this change in proportion. Between the outside air and the combustion chamber sit the intake ducts, the box volume, the throttle body and the ports, and the element is the last and smallest restriction among them. A replacement element does not make any motorcycle measurably faster, and this one is no exception; on a machine already running race calibration and exhaust it is a final small increment, not the thing that unlocks the rest. What it does deliver is an intake resistance that begins low and comes back to the same figure every time the element is blown through, instead of climbing quietly through a season.
Care and cleaning
Between sessions the PM200S F1-85 asks for a compressor and a minute: air at the clean face, pushed out through the medium so the dust leaves by the route it came in, and it goes straight back — nothing to re-oil, nothing to wait for. A full wash uses lukewarm water and a mild detergent, rinsed until the water runs clear, followed by complete drying in open air with no heat and no flame near it. Fit it only when dry. The maintenance sheet is in the Downloads tab.
Fitment & Compatibility
Made for the KTM RC 390 R, 2022 to 2026, replacing the original element in the standard airbox. The same code is listed against thirteen KTM and Husqvarna machines, road models included, so the code and the year are what to order by. The list is in the Fitment tab.
