What Black Changes

Anodising is a colour applied into the surface of aluminium rather than onto it, so the milled geometry stays exactly as machined — the perforation, the radii, the machining marks all read the same under either colour.

What changes is how much of it you see. The orange cap makes the outlet the brightest object at the back of the motorcycle; black lets it recede into the shadow under the tail and leaves the titanium sleeves as the thing that catches light. On a Super Duke in the darker colourways, that is the more coherent of the two.

Anodised, Not Painted

The distinction matters on a component this close to the exhaust gas. Anodising converts the surface of the aluminium into a hard oxide layer and the colour sits inside it; there is no film to lift, chip or discolour with heat.

A painted end cap on a silencer outlet has a limited life and shows it at the edges first. This one will look the same after several seasons of heat cycling, which is the reason to pay for an anodised cap rather than a coated one.

Three Caps, One Silencer

Spark offers the Dyno with orange anodised aluminium (GKT0120TOMA), black anodised aluminium (this one) and carbon fibre (GKT0120TOMC), at three different prices and with nothing else changed between them.

Same silencers, same 2.6 kg, same Euro5 approval, same restrictions. It is an unusually clean choice: pick the finish and the price follows, with no technical consequence attached to either.

The Case Behind the Cap

The end caps get the attention, but the silencers themselves are the newest design Spark drew for this motorcycle. They arrived with the extension of the range to the 1390 Super Duke R Evo, alongside a full update of everything already approved to Euro5.

They are supplied as a pair, mounted high under the tail, and at 2.6 kg they are the lightest of Spark's three homologated underseat options here. The weight is not the reason to buy them, but it is not nothing either.

What the Underseat Layout Costs

Spark lists two restrictions for every under-seat kit on this bike, and they apply here in full: not compatible with the passenger footrests, and not compatible with the RR version.

Both follow from geometry rather than from choice. The silencers occupy the space the footrest hangers use, and the RR's tail section is different. If the pillion seat has to stay usable, the lateral slip-on GKT0113TOM is the alternative.
