DescriptionThe whole story▼
With 150 mm of stroke, this Öhlins steering damper is sized for a particular range of steering lock. It is sold without a vehicle-specific mount. Universal dampers are chosen by stroke and mounting length, never by model name alone.
Key Features
- Stroke 150 mm
- Öhlins SD 012
- Not tied to one motorcycle
- Blackline finish
- Mounting length min/max 36,5/397,5 mm
Function
Mounting brackets are not included, because they depend on the frame and fork of the motorcycle. The damper should move freely through its full stroke with the handlebars turned lock to lock. The adjuster range is wide enough to cover a light naked bike and a heavy sports tourer. The damper sits between frame and fork and works in both directions of travel. Once the chassis is set up correctly, the damper setting is usually found within a few rides.
Before You Order
We supply the unit; the brackets or adaptation depend on the individual build. Many riders choose a universal unit because it can move with them to their next bike. If brackets are fabricated, they should be made stiff enough to carry the damping forces. Where the bracket sits decides whether 150 mm of stroke is enough.
Maintenance
Brackets must hold the damper without play, or the damping is lost in the mounts. Steering dampers are most useful on motorcycles with short wheelbases and steep steering heads. On supermoto and adventure bikes the damper helps where wide bars amplify steering input.
Road Approval
Road approval: none linked to a vehicle. If the motorcycle stays on the road, talk to us about the mounting before ordering.
