Manufacture and Tolerance
Each spring is set before it is measured, so it will not settle and lose rate in service. Shafts are hardened and surface-treated so the seal has a consistent surface to run against. Öhlins sets a baseline for each part number on the machine it was developed on, so it works before anything is adjusted.

Where This Rate Belongs

Öhlins supplies most of its shocks without a spring precisely so the rate can be matched to the rider rather than averaged. Öhlins sells rear springs separately precisely because rider weight varies more than machine weight does.

A workshop will pick this spring from its dimensions and the rider's weight, not from a fitment table. Rate is the variable that depends on the rider, not on the machine. Two people on the same bike may well want two different numbers.
Fitting
If the fork has not been serviced recently, bushes and seals are worth replacing while it is apart. Both legs are done together, and both take the same rate. Set static sag after fitting; the rate is only right if the sag figure lands where Öhlins specifies.
