DescriptionThe whole story▼
Red is the version of the Moto 5.5 FlexLock Evo that nobody overlooks. From the toe to the top of the shaft the shell is a strong red, and the large white Leatt symbol on the shin makes the boot easy to spot from the side of the track.
Technically it is the same boot as every other Evo: TPU protection from shin to heel, Leatt's adjustable FlexLock lower boot with a rear torsion blade, a DualZone sole with steel shank and a closure that combines SlideLock with four forged aluminium buckles. It suits riders who want this level of protection and like their kit to match a red bike or team colours.
Key Features
- Shell in bold red with white Leatt shin logo
- FlexLock system to help reduce forces on ankle and knee, according to Leatt
- Rear torsion blade and improved pivot bolt assembly
- Revised ankle volumes and new front and rear bellows for mobility
- Four forged aluminium Over-Lock buckles on stainless-steel bases
- Low-profile toe box and heel-grip ankle design
- Two-piece padded, water-resistant lining
Mobility and fit
For the Evo, Leatt reshaped the ankle volumes and fitted a one-piece front bellow plus a new rear bellow. The collar is now made from elastic fabric. All of this is about letting the leg move freely in the boot, and Leatt says the fit remains comfortable for wide feet too.
Control on the bike
A 3D bottom shell is set up for sensitivity on the pegs, and the DualZone sole uses two hardness zones to balance grip and wear. The extended footpeg riding zone gives more contact area, while a steel shank stiffens the sole. Up front, the low-profile toe box makes shifting easier; at the back, the heel-grip ankle design keeps the foot stable.
Protective construction
The TPU construction covers shin, ankle, heel and foot. A reinforced TPU heel counter supports the foot and adds impact protection. 3DF foam, shaped in 3D, sits over both ankles.
With the FlexLock lower boot you choose how stiff the lower boot behaves; Leatt designs it to reduce ankle and knee forces. The rear torsion blade limits overflexion in both directions, and its pivot bolt assembly has been improved. The boot is CE certified to prEN 13634:2017.
Closing the boot
The top is sealed by the SlideLock system, a one-way sliding closure that locks itself and is operated with a Velcro pull-tab. Four forged aluminium Over-Lock buckles on stainless-steel bases finish the job lower down.
Materials and lining
TPU makes up the largest share of the boot, followed by synthetic leather, aluminium for the buckles and rubber for the sole; POM, nylon with carbon fibre, TPR and steel complete the mix. Inside, a two-piece padded lining is water-resistant, and an anti-slip heel reinforcement holds the heel in place.
What you should know
Red is offered up to EU 48 (US 13); the largest Evo size, EU 49.5, is not available in this colour. There is no waterproof membrane, so in persistent rain the lining is the only barrier. Leatt specifies a weight of 4,550 g for the 5.5 FlexLock Evo.
Colour
The red covers almost the entire shell, including the sole. Black appears on the rear panel, the collar band and the buckle straps, the buckles themselves are metallic, and the white Leatt symbol sits on the shin. Red hides light dust reasonably well but shows dried grey mud more than black does, and a strong colour like this makes a clear statement next to plain riding gear.
