DescriptionThe whole story▼
The silencer this damper belongs to is a road-legal one. That makes it unusual in this group: most noise inserts in the catalogue serve competition exhausts, and this one serves an EC and ECE type-approved slip-on that an MT-10 owner rides on the street every day.
Key Features
- Made for the Slip-On Line (Titanium) S-Y10SO20-HAPLT
- That silencer is type approved and is stocked here
- For the 2022 to 2024 MT-10
- Goes in and comes out with hand tools
- Akrapovic publishes no decibel figure for it
An Insert for a Road Exhaust
A type-approved silencer already meets the noise limit it was certified against. So why an insert at all? Because a type approval and a circuit's static limit are different tests with different numbers, and a system that passes one can still read above the other.
An MT-10 taken to a track day can meet every road requirement and still be turned away at the gate. This is the part that closes that gap.
The Silencer Is Available
Akrapovic names S-Y10SO20-HAPLT, and that slip-on is in the current range and on the shelf here. As with the CFMOTO damper, there is no revision number to reconcile and no discontinued system to ask about.
Akrapovic also lists a revised version of that slip-on under a suffixed number. If the exhaust on the motorcycle came from elsewhere, confirming the damper against it is a sensible five minutes.
A 998 cc Crossplane Four
The MT-10 uses the R1's engine in a naked chassis and makes about 166 PS. It is loud in character even standard — the crossplane firing order gives it a note unlike any other inline four — and a titanium slip-on does not make it quieter.
That character is most of why people buy the exhaust, and it is also why a removable restrictor is worth owning.
No Published Figure
Akrapovic gives no decibel value. Nothing is estimated here; the reduction depends on the exhaust, the engine and how the measurement is taken, and only a measured reading on the actual bike means anything.
Reversible
The insert is a bolt-in part. Fitting it changes nothing permanent about the silencer, and removing it restores the exhaust exactly as it was. That matters on a road bike, where the owner will want the full sound most of the time.
Three Model Years
Yamaha revised the MT-10 for 2022 with new bodywork, new electronics and a new exhaust. This damper belongs to that generation and to the Akrapovic silencer built for it.
Optional
Nothing is missing from the slip-on without it. Akrapovic sells the insert separately because most owners never need one, and adding its cost to every system would serve nobody.
Road Approval
Not applicable in the usual sense. The slip-on carries its own EC and ECE type approval; this insert neither adds to nor takes away from that, and it addresses circuit limits instead.
