DescriptionThe whole story▼
Forged carbon, and Akrapovic says this is the first time it has used the material in a motorcycle product at all. That is a real distinction rather than a marketing line: forged carbon is a different process from the woven cloth every other shield in this catalogue is made from.
Key Features
- Forged carbon fibre — Akrapovic's first in the motorcycle sector
- 100 grams against the standard aluminium shield's 220
- More than 54 per cent lighter than the part it replaces
- Made for the Slip-On Line (Titanium) on the MT-10
- Simple to fit, with no adjustment afterwards
Forged, Not Woven
Woven carbon is cloth laid into a mould by hand, and it produces the familiar chequerboard weave. Forged carbon is short chopped fibres pressed into the mould under high pressure, and it produces a marbled, directionless pattern that no two parts share exactly.
The practical difference is that forged carbon flows into complex shapes a woven sheet cannot follow without wrinkling. For a shield that has to wrap around a silencer and its mounts, that is the reason to use it.
A Hundred and Twenty Grams
220 g down to 100. In absolute terms that is a pair of house keys, and on a 212 kg motorcycle it changes nothing measurable.
What it does mean is that the standard part is aluminium and this one is not, which shows in how the two look next to a titanium silencer. That is the honest reason people fit it.
It Belongs to a System
Akrapovic designed this shield around the Slip-On Line (Titanium) for the MT-10. On the standard Yamaha silencer it has nothing to complete, and the whole point of the part is how it finishes that specific installation.
A Revised Part Number
The suffix marks this as the current revision. Akrapovic also lists an earlier version of the same shield at the same price with the same description and the same fitment; the two are the same product, and this is the number the manufacturer ships today.
Only this revision is stocked here, deliberately — carrying both would put two identical parts in front of the same customer.
No Two Are Identical
A practical consequence of the process: because the chopped fibres settle differently in every pressing, the marbled pattern on each shield is unique. A replacement ordered years later will match the bike but not the original part exactly, and that is inherent to forged carbon rather than a defect.
Three Model Years
The MT-10 from 2022 to 2024. Yamaha's CP4 naked bike changed bodywork and electronics for 2022, and the shield follows that generation.
Simple to Fit
Akrapovic describes the installation as simple, and it is: the standard shield unbolts and this one goes on the same mounts. It is an owner's job rather than a workshop's.
Road Approval
Not applicable. A heat shield is neither an emissions nor a noise component, and no approval attaches to it.
