DescriptionThe whole story▼
The R nineT looks at home outside a café, and plenty of owners ride it for exactly that: a short run into town, a coffee, and a bike parked where people can see it. Old town centres are often paved with setts or cobbles, though, and those make poor ground for a side stand. The foot slips into a joint or tilts on a rounded stone, the roadster leans further than it should, and it lands on its left side, clutch lever first. Accossato's AGS194 is a black clutch lever in the original form for the R nineT, listed from 2014 to 2022.
Key Features
- Replacement clutch lever of the original type for the BMW R nineT
- Model years 2014 to 2022 on Accossato's list
- Black
- Left side of the handlebar, clutch
- Developed by Accossato as a spare with a sensible price-to-quality ratio
- According to Accossato, its production method increases resistance after damage or a crash
- Supplied as one lever
- For racing and competition; no German ABE or test mark on file
Construction and Material Quality
The AGS194 is a pattern part in the proper sense of the term: it follows the design of the clutch lever BMW fitted, so the controls on the left of the R nineT keep their standard look after the repair. Accossato designed these levers to be good value, and the company from Villastellone near Turin adds that its manufacturing process makes them more resistant after damage or a collision. The colour is black, in line with Accossato's list for this bike. Beyond that the maker gives no technical data, so we have none to pass on.
Stones, Joints and a Side Stand
Cobbles give a side stand three ways to fail. The foot can slide off a rounded stone, sink into a sandy joint, or perch on the edge of a sett and tip as the weight settles. A few habits help. Look down before you lower the stand and pick a flat, solid stone as its base, or carry a small stand plate for exactly this purpose. On a slope, park with the front wheel facing uphill and leave the R nineT in first gear so that it cannot roll forward off the stand. Before walking away, watch the stand foot for a few seconds; if it is sinking or sliding, find another spot. If the bike has gone over anyway, check more than the lever, because the mirror, the left cylinder head and the footpeg often take a knock as well. After fitting the AGS194 with a lightly greased pivot, pull it several times with the engine off, make sure it returns fully and that the clutch switch responds, and try the clutch at a standstill before you ride.
Fitment and Compatibility
On Accossato's list the AGS194 appears for the R nineT with ABS in two periods, 2014 to 2016 and 2017 to 2022, and no other replacement clutch lever is named for the bike. The matching brake lever is the black AGD305 for the same years. We also list the AGS194 for the K 1300 R, the K 1300 S and the K 1600 GT. If you would rather fit a tuning part than a spare, Accossato's CNC levers for the clutch side of the R nineT are ESB002 and ESC075. As always, compare the photo with the lever on your bike before you order.
Road Approval
For the AGS194 we have no approval papers, neither a German ABE nor a test mark, and so we list it for racing and competition.
