DescriptionThe whole story

The same three-outlet Triade system Spark builds for the R9, finished in black ceramic instead of brushed stainless. The coating is not paint and not anodising: it is a ceramic layer applied to the finished stainless assembly, which is why it survives on a component that runs at exhaust-gas temperature. The system weighs 5.7 kg against 7.0 kg standard and keeps its Euro 5 catalytic converter.

Key Features

  • Black ceramic coating over the complete stainless steel system — box, outlets and manifold.
  • Three-outlet Triade layout, one exit per cylinder, behind a MotoGP-style mesh grid.
  • Euro 5 catalytic converter integrated into the AISI 304 stainless manifold.
  • 5.7 kg against 7.0 kg standard — 1.3 kg saved with the catalyst intact.
  • EC homologation certificate supplied by Spark.
  • Not compatible with a centre stand.
  • Made by Spark in Mantova, Italy.

Build Quality & Materials

Underneath the coating this is the same AISI 304 stainless system as the Scotch-brite version. The ceramic treatment is applied after fabrication and welding, so it covers the seams as well as the panels — a coating that stopped at the welds would fail there first. Ceramic is used on exhausts specifically because it tolerates the thermal cycling that destroys ordinary black finishes: paint chalks, powder coat lifts, and anodising is not available on steel at all.

Visually the effect is that the exhaust stops competing with the bodywork. On an R9 in a dark colourway the system reads as part of the motorcycle rather than as an addition, and the mesh grids at the three outlets become the only bright detail.

Performance & Sound

Mechanically identical to GYA8898IOM: the same manifold, the same catalyst, the same pre-silencer box and the same three-into-three outlet geometry. The coating changes the surface, not the gas path, so the acoustic and performance behaviour is the same. On a triple, the separated outlets let each cylinder's pulse leave without merging at the tip, which is what gives the Triade its distinctive low-rev character.

Spark quotes weight and homologation for this system rather than a decibel figure.

Fitment & Compatibility

Spark carries this number across three machines: MT-09 (2021-2026), XSR 900 (2022-2025) and YZF R9 (2025-2026). A centre stand is not compatible. If you would rather have bare metal than black, order GYA8898IOM — same exhaust, Scotch-brite finish, and roughly three hundred euros less.

Road Approval

Homologated, with the EC certificate supplied by Spark. The ceramic coating changes nothing about the approval, because the gas path and the catalyst underneath are unchanged from the stainless version. As with that version, the certificate is issued for a defined range of model years and emission classes — ask us to verify it against your papers before you fit it.
