DescriptionThe whole story▼

Öhlins part number 21067-15 is a shock absorber spring rated at 62 N/mm, 220 mm long with a 51 mm inner diameter. A rear spring matched to rider and load keeps the chassis attitude where the factory intended it.

Key Features

  • Measured spring rate 62 N/mm
  • Inner diameter 51 mm
  • Powder-coated yellow
  • Free length 220 mm
  • Öhlins part number 21067-15
  • Straight-wound, constant rate
  • 115 mm of usable stroke

Manufacture and Tolerance

Every Öhlins dealer can re-valve the unit, because the shim stack is a documented, serviceable assembly. Anodising is hard-coat rather than decorative, which matters on a component exposed to road salt and stone chips. The wire is progressively wound where the application calls for it and straight where it does not.

The Numbers That Matter

Free length 220 mm, inner diameter 51 mm, rate 62 N/mm — those three figures define the part completely.

Choosing 62 N/mm

A firm rate keeps the fork high in its stroke under braking, which preserves the geometry when the front is loaded hard. If the suspension bottoms out or the geometry collapses under load, this is the direction to go. Firm rates also suit machines carrying luggage as a matter of course. A road machine spends most of its life in the first third of the fork's travel — that is the part the rate governs.

How a Rear Spring Works

Static sag at the rear sets the whole chassis attitude — get it wrong and the front geometry goes with it. The rear spring carries the rider, the pillion and the luggage; the front carries only part of it. The damper can only control the spring it is given; the wrong rate makes every setting a compromise.

Applications

Any workshop with the fork or shock in front of it can answer whether this spring fits — the three figures above are all it needs. Öhlins offers rates in defined steps so a change can be made in one direction at a time rather than by guesswork. There is no model list for this size because the spring is a dimensional part: it fits whatever fork it physically fits.

Fitting

Work on both legs in one session so the fork stays symmetrical. Set static sag after fitting; the rate is only right if the sag figure lands where Öhlins specifies. If the fork has not been serviced recently, bushes and seals are worth replacing while it is apart.

Road Approval

Road approval: none is issued for springs as such — they replace an existing component of the same function. Any model-specific approval is listed under Applications.

Fitting and Setup Service

We are an authorised Öhlins service centre, so the installation does not have to be your problem: we fit and set up Öhlins components in our own workshop. Ask us when you order and we will include the work.
