DescriptionThe whole story▼

Öhlins part number 06320-15 is a shock absorber spring rated at 62 N/mm, 210 mm long with a 61 mm inner diameter. A rear spring matched to rider and load keeps the chassis attitude where the factory intended it.

Key Features

  • Powder-coated yellow
  • Inner diameter 61 mm
  • 120 mm of usable stroke
  • Öhlins part number 06320-15
  • Measured spring rate 62 N/mm
  • Free length 210 mm
  • Straight-wound, constant rate

Why the Rate Holds

Each spring is set before it is measured, so it will not settle and lose rate in service. The wire is progressively wound where the application calls for it and straight where it does not. Production has stayed in Sweden since the company was founded in 1976.

The Numbers That Matter

The 61 mm bore and 210 mm length are the two figures that decide whether it physically fits; 62 N/mm decides whether it suits the rider.

What This Rate Does

Heavier riders, two-up use and track days all push the choice towards this end. A firm rate holds the chassis attitude when the front or rear is loaded hard. A firm rate keeps the fork high in its stroke under braking, which preserves the geometry when the front is loaded hard. A road machine spends most of its life in the first third of the fork's travel — that is the part the rate governs.

What the Rear Spring Decides

Static sag at the rear sets the whole chassis attitude — get it wrong and the front geometry goes with it. Because the linkage is progressive on most modern machines, a small change in rate moves the sag more than riders expect. A spring that has settled in service sits shorter than new, which quietly lowers the bike and steepens the steering.

Applications

Ask us with the machine and rider weight and we will tell you which rate in this size to take. Rate is the variable that depends on the rider, not on the machine. Two people on the same bike may well want two different numbers. There is no model list for this size because the spring is a dimensional part: it fits whatever fork it physically fits.

What Fitting Involves

Oil level is measured from the top of the tube with the fork compressed and the spring removed. Springs are supplied ready to fit; no cutting, grinding or packing is needed. Öhlins supplies a setting sheet with the springs; the numbers on it assume the specified oil.

Road Approval

Road approval: no separate certificate. The spring changes the rate, not the construction of the fork, and is treated as a service part.

Fitting and Setup Service

We are an authorised Öhlins service centre, so the installation does not have to be your problem: we fit and set up Öhlins components in our own workshop. Ask us when you order and we will include the work.
