Function
The published figures are 25 mm, 23 mm, 5 mm. Measure the old part against them before ordering. A worn piston band lets oil past the outside of the piston, which shows up as damping that has gone soft. A worn band lets oil past the outside of the piston, which feels like damping that has gone soft. Öhlins uses a piston band rather than metal-to-metal contact, which is what keeps the bore intact.
Genuine Service Part
Öhlins supports units that are decades old, which is why the spare parts list runs to thousands of numbers. The part number is the contract: it defines material, dimension and finish together. The exploded drawing for your unit names the number; if you do not have it, we do. We can check the number against the Öhlins exploded view before you order — just ask.
How to Be Sure It Fits
Order under 01447-02. Where several sizes share a description, only the number separates them. Öhlins states dimension a 25 mm, dimension b 23 mm, dimension c 5 mm for this number, and those figures are the deciding ones. Twin-tube pistons have separate paths for compression and rebound, which is the whole point of the design. Port area and shim seat geometry decide the damping curve before any adjuster is touched.
Fitting and Setup Service
Ask us about a full service: as an authorised Öhlins centre we strip, inspect, replace what is worn and set the unit back to its specification.
