How to measure your helmet size correctly: To find the right helmet size, measure your head circumference with a flexible tape measure.
It is important that the tape measure runs around the widest part of the head – only then will you get a correct result.
Place the tape measure at the front, about 1–2 cm above the eyebrows, and run it along the sides above the ears.
At the back, the tape must run over the largest part of the back of the head (not too low on the neck). The tape may run slightly at an angle – what matters is that it sits all the way around the largest points of the head.
Make sure the tape measure sits snugly but does not dig in. Measure 2–3 times for the most accurate result. You can then compare the measured value in centimetres (cm) with our size chart.
Tips for an accurate result
- Keep hair flat (e.g. do not measure over a voluminous hairstyle)
- Keep the tape horizontal, i.e. along the largest circumference
- Do not measure too loosely
- For values between two sizes:
→ usually choose the larger size (depending on helmet model / fit)
Important note on fit
The right helmet should fit firmly without causing uncomfortable pressure points.
A new helmet may feel a little tighter at first, as the inner lining adapts slightly over time.

This is the Duria pattern doing a job rather than making a statement. Fluorescent yellow is the only colour on this page that is brighter than white in daylight, because a fluorescent pigment re-emits ultraviolet as visible light instead of merely reflecting what lands on it. Set into a grey base, it puts that brightness exactly where an approaching driver looks.
Three shells for seven sizes
Three shells across XS–3XL, which puts this helmet ahead of every other flip-up we stock. Both versions of the Advant carry seven sizes on two shells, and that is normal for modular helmets: the chin-bar pivots and their reinforcement have to be moulded into each shell individually, so every extra tool is a serious cost. The Scope II is the cheapest helmet on this site with three, and it is the specification that most repays reading twice.
About the Duria Grey H-V Yellow graphic
Fluorescent finishes are usually sold on looks and are worth understanding on physics. A normal pigment can only return part of the light that falls on it; a fluorescent one absorbs ultraviolet — which is abundant on exactly the overcast and dusk days when visibility is worst — and re-emits it in the visible range. The result genuinely appears brighter than white under those conditions, which is why high-visibility clothing is regulated around it. The grey base here matters as much as the yellow: it keeps the helmet from looking like safety equipment, and it gives the eye a dark surround that makes the yellow read as brighter still. One honest limitation, and it applies to every fluorescent surface ever made: the effect fades with sustained UV exposure. Keep the helmet out of a sunny window and it will hold its colour for years longer.
HPTT: what the shell actually is
The material is HPTT, injection-moulded. It is worth saying what this is not: it is not fibreglass, not composite, not carbon, and nobody at LS2 has claimed otherwise. A shell like this is chosen because it is repeatable, penetration-resistant and cheap to produce in three separate sizes — which is precisely the trade this helmet makes, and the reason it is a hundred and twenty euros less than the cheapest composite flip-up we sell.
Ninety degrees, not one hundred and eighty
Where the bar sits when it is open changes how the helmet behaves, and ninety degrees puts it at the highest point of the shell. The mass moves up and slightly forward, so an open Scope II feels more top-heavy at a standstill than it does closed. That is not a fault — it is geometry, and it is common to almost every flip-up on the market. It is also the practical reason to close it before you set off rather than after.
What ECE 22.06 and the P/J label actually mean
Worth a paragraph rather than a table row. The oblique impact test introduced by ECE 22.06 drops the helmet onto a slanted anvil covered in abrasive paper while instruments record how fast the head rotates. That number is compared against the Brain Injury Criterion. It is the first time European regulation has put a limit on the mechanism that does most of the damage in a real crash.
The P/J label alongside it certifies two configurations, not one. Closed, the helmet is a full-face and was tested as one, chin impacts included. Open, it is a jet and was tested as that. On a helmet built to be ridden in both states, having only one of those approvals would be a meaningful gap.
Where it sits — and what SHARP actually tested
What the money buys further up this range is shell material, and nothing else of substance. Sun visor, Pinlock insert, emergency release, dual homologation and a micrometric buckle appear on every flip-up in the table. That makes the Scope II unusually easy to judge: you are choosing a weight and a price, not a feature set.
One correction worth making before you find it elsewhere. SHARP's three-star result belongs to the FF902 Scope, not the Scope II. Their entry records ECE 22.05, 1.65 kg and six sizes, tested May 2022. This helmet is the later 22.06 model. Neither the rating nor its absence tells you anything about this shell.

COOLMAX, and where the air goes
Laser cutting is not a marketing word on this liner. Stamping a pad cuts it to one profile at one density; cutting it with a laser allows both to vary within the same piece — firm where the pad has to locate the helmet on your jaw, relieved over the cheekbone and where the arms of glasses run. On a helmet at this price it is a detail worth noticing.
The fabric over it is COOLMAX, chosen for moisture transport rather than softness, and the whole interior comes out for washing. Air reaches it through chin and front intakes, channels in the multi-density EPS, and the rear exhaust port.
The visor, the sun visor and the Pinlock in the box
Two honest lines about the Pinlock 70. Against an XLT lens it passes less light, so on an unlit road at night the difference is perceptible if you look for it. Against no lens at all it is transformative, because a visor that mists at every traffic light is the single most dangerous thing about riding in cold, wet weather. It is in the box, pinned and ready, and that is the comparison that matters.
Getting the helmet off a fallen rider
The purpose of the emergency release is narrow and specific. Paramedics have to remove a helmet from a rider who may have a cervical injury, and the safe method is to take the cheek pads out first so the shell lifts straight rather than being rotated over the jaw. The tabs at the base of the shell do exactly that, and they are the reason to be careful how you refit the interior after washing it.
1750 grams, noise, and the rest of the honest list
Two numbers and one absence. The numbers: 1750 g, and ninety degrees of chin-bar travel. The absence: no independent crash rating for the Scope II, because SHARP's three-star result belongs to the model that came before it under the old standard.
Noise deserves the same treatment as weight rather than being left out. There is no published decibel figure. What is structural is that flip-ups leak air where the bar meets the shell, and that the chin curtain — a five-euro part — closes the largest of those gaps. What is not the helmet's fault is a screen that aims dirty air straight at your head.
When something wears out
Both internal sun visors are available as spares, clear and tinted, and they are shared with several other LS2 models rather than being specific to this one. That is worth knowing for a reason that has nothing to do with fitment: shared parts stay in production long after model-specific ones are discontinued, which is the difference between a repairable helmet in five years and a disposable one.
