DescriptionThe whole story▼
Fermín Aldeguer's 2026 colours, on the helmet you can actually buy. The design is the one Aldo Drudi's studio drew for his season — neon yellow, magenta and a blue airbrushed core — and the shell underneath is LS2's 100 per cent carbon FF805 Thunder GP Aero at a declared 1,280 g. What follows is the part most replica listings leave out: where this helmet is identical to a race helmet, and where it is not.
What a replica buys you, and what it does not
It buys the paint, the shell material, the aerodynamics and the retention system. Everything you can see from the outside is the real thing.
What it does not buy is the homologation Aldeguer races under. His helmet is the FF805 Thunder GP PRO: a different laminate, Carbon 9K instead of 6K, three outer shell sizes instead of one, an X-Static silver liner, and FIM Racing homologation. The FIM's own register of homologated circuit helmets lists one LS2 model, and it is the GP PRO. This one is approved to ECE 22.06.
For everything short of a licensed race — road, fast road, open pit lane, most track days — ECE 22.06 is what an organiser asks for. If yours asks for FIM, the paint will not help you, and we would rather you knew that before the parcel arrives than after.
The 2026 livery, panel by panel
Neon yellow carries the crown and the whole rear third including the spoiler. Across the flank runs a magenta-red arrow with a white outline, and inside it a soft blue-to-cyan airbrushed gradient that reads almost like a flame at a distance and resolves into brushwork up close.
The chin bar is neon yellow with the Drudi Performance signature in navy, and the LS2 wordmark sits in white on a red panel along the lower flank. The finish is gloss throughout, which is what makes the blue gradient work — matt would flatten it.
Carbon 6K, and the 1,280 grams that follow
The shell is 100 per cent carbon fibre in a 6K weave, meaning six thousand filaments per tow. LS2 declares 1,280 g with a tolerance of 50 g, which we report as the manufacturer's figure because we have not put one on a scale.
The number matters more than it looks. A helmet is held up by your neck against every braking point and every head-check, and the load is cumulative rather than instantaneous — you notice 200 g not in the first corner but in the last session of the day. At 1,280 g this sits with the lightest full-face helmets on the market, and roughly 200 g under a typical composite sport helmet.
One outer shell size, and what that costs you
LS2 builds the GP Aero in a single outer shell across XS to XXL. Most helmets use two, and the GP PRO above it uses three.
The consequence is fit, not weight. With one shell the entire size range is made up in padding, so an XS and an XXL are the same object with different amounts of foam inside. A rider at the small end carries the frontal area and the external volume of a large helmet, and at the top end the padding is thin. If you are at either extreme of the range, try one on before you commit — this is the single specification on this helmet we would want you to check in person.
What ECE 22.06 actually tests
The 22.06 standard replaced 22.05 as an EU requirement in January 2024, and the difference is not cosmetic. It tests 18 impact points instead of five, at several speeds rather than one, and it adds an oblique impact against an abrasive anvil that measures rotational acceleration — the mechanism behind most brain injury, which the old standard did not look at.
It also assesses the Brain Injury Criterion rather than peak deceleration alone, and it tests accessories fitted rather than the bare shell, so the visor and vents on the helmet you buy were part of the certified assembly.
The spoiler and the air path
Air enters at the chin, at the brow above the visor and through the top intakes, runs through channels cut into the EPS, and leaves through the exhaust under the rear spoiler.
The spoiler is doing aerodynamic work as well as visual: on a helmet this light, the shell is easily unsettled in the turbulent air behind a screen, and a spoiler steadies it and reduces the lift that makes a light helmet tug at your neck at speed.
The cheek pads come out without moving your head
The Emergency Release System is a pair of red tabs at the base of the cheek pads. Pull them and the pads slide out, which lets a marshal or a paramedic take the helmet off without rotating your neck.
You will never use it. It is on this helmet because the people who will use it asked for it, and it is one of the specifications that separates a genuine race shell from a sport helmet that looks like one.
The visor, and the anti-fog you actually get
A wide, scratch-resistant, UV-filtering Class A polycarbonate visor on a quick-release mechanism, with a button lock at the closed position and posts already drilled for tear-offs.
The Pinlock 120XLT MaxVision lens is in the box rather than sold separately — 120 is Pinlock's highest anti-fog grade, XLT is the larger lens format, and MaxVision means it reaches the edges of the aperture instead of leaving a visible frame in your peripheral vision. LS2 also packs a tinted visor and tear-off films, so the helmet arrives track-ready rather than needing a second order.
Gloss over neon: living with it
Gloss is the easier finish to own. Fine handling marks polish out with a mild compound, where the same mark in a matt clearcoat is permanent, and a gloss surface sheds insects and road film with less scrubbing.
The trade is that gloss shows every fingerprint, and neon pigments — this yellow in particular — are among the least UV-stable in any paint system. Clean it wet and never dry, and keep it out of a car rear window in summer.
What this helmet does not have
- No FIM homologation. ECE 22.06 only; FIM belongs to the GP PRO.
- No drop-down sun visor. Correct on a racing shell, but it means a tinted screen has to travel with you.
- One outer shell size for six helmet sizes. See above.
- No independent safety rating. SHARP has not tested any FF805 Thunder, and no ADAC or Snell result exists.
- No published noise figure. We do not invent decibel numbers, and a helmet with this much through-flow is not built to be quiet.
- Intercom preparation, not an intercom. The shell is cut for the LS2 system; no electronics are included.
