DescriptionThe whole story▼

The Brutale 1090 is MV Agusta's four-cylinder naked. The JP PD MV002 replaces its right-hand switch with a milled Ergal body on a universal clamp pattern.

Key Features

  • MV Agusta Brutale 1090 (2012–2017)
  • Universal hole pattern for either master cylinder
  • Full street control set
  • Black, red or titanium anodising
  • CNC-milled Ergal 7075
  • Plug-and-play on the original connector

The Four-Cylinder Brutale

Before the 1000 arrived with its winglets, the 1090 was MV's large naked: a 1078 cc four derived from the F4, making up to 144 hp in RR specification. It is heavier and less frantic than the triples and it has an entirely different character.

Overshadowed and Underrated

The 1090 was sold alongside the more fashionable 800 triples and never received the same attention, which has left good examples surprisingly affordable. Riders who own one tend to be evangelical about the engine in a way that Brutale 800 owners are not.

A Large Engine in a Naked Chassis

With no bodywork to hide behind, the rider takes the full airflow and the throttle hand works against it at speed. The right-hand controls are therefore operated with a hand that is already loaded, which makes the definition of each button more important than on a faired bike.

Where the Original Loses Its Edge

Starter, kill switch and mode selection, worked in gloves through every season on a motorcycle with no protection at all. Nothing on the standard housing fails; the two clipped halves develop play and the buttons that straddle the joint stop feeling definite.

Universal Clamp Pattern

The switch shares its bolts with the master cylinder clamp. On a bike of this age the front brake has frequently been revised at some point, and there is no reliable way to know which geometry a used example arrived with.

Three Anodised Finishes

Black, red and titanium. All are through-colour rather than applied, so a knock dulls the surface rather than leaving a bright scar on an otherwise dark cockpit.

One Piece Under Vibration

A large four-cylinder engine in a trellis frame with no bodywork transmits a great deal to the handlebar. A machined body clamped with a proper fastener stays tight where two mouldings held together by clips gradually work apart.
