DescriptionThe whole story▼
The Monster 796 with a milled right-hand switch block on a universal clamp pattern, in three anodised finishes.
Key Features
- Ducati Monster 796 (2011–2015)
- Universal hole pattern for either master cylinder
- Complete street control set
- Black, red or titanium anodising
- CNC-machined from Ergal 7075
- Sealed switch elements
- Plug-and-play on the original connector
The Air-Cooled Middleweight
Eight hundred and three cubic centimetres and 87 horsepower from the Desmodue twin, with a single-sided swingarm the 795 never had. It is the prettier of the two by a comfortable margin.
A Wet Clutch
Ducati moved the 796 to a wet clutch, which made it quieter and considerably easier to use in traffic than the dry-clutch Monsters that preceded it. Purists complained about the missing rattle.
Either Master Cylinder
The universal slots fit the original clamp and the radial units. On a fourteen-year-old motorcycle the brake end has usually seen some attention already.
Three Finishes
Black, red and titanium, converted into the surface layer of the metal. On a bike this old the anodising will outlast whatever is left of the original printed legends.
Fourteen Winters
The earliest 796s have been through that many. Moulded switchgear reaches a stage where one function is intermittent for a season before it stops entirely, and the factory answer is the whole block.
Sealed Inside
The elements are enclosed within the machined body. There is no clipped lid to have lost its tension somewhere in the last decade.
The End of the Desmodue
Emissions rules finished the air-cooled twin and nothing will replace it. The 796 is one of the last approachable examples of an engine that defined Ducati for forty years.
Nothing Spliced
Ducati's own connector at the end of the loom. The change is mechanical and it takes about as long as fitting a new grip.
A Single-Sided Swingarm
The 796 carried one where the cheaper Monsters did not, which is most of why it is the better-looking of the air-cooled middleweights. On a naked motorcycle with no bodywork to hide behind, that detail does a great deal of the visual work.
