DescriptionThe whole story▼
The JP ESR 016 emulates the RR-R's electronic rear shock so conventional suspension can be fitted without a fault.
Key Features
- Honda CBR 1000 RR-R Fireblade SP (2020–2024)
- Emulates the electronic suspension the ECU expects
- Suppresses the resulting dashboard fault
- Plug-and-play on the original connector
- No cutting and no splicing
- Fully reversible to standard
What Gets Replaced
The SP's semi-active Öhlins rear unit. Race teams frequently swap it for a conventional cartridge shock they can set themselves rather than negotiate with.
Why the ECU Objects
It expects to find a stepper motor and a position sensor. A conventional shock has neither, and the dashboard reports the absence immediately and permanently.
An Emulator, Not an Eliminator
This unit does not switch anything off. It presents the electrical signature of a working electronic shock so the controller believes nothing has changed.
Why Teams Bother
Semi-active damping follows an algorithm written for a road bike. A race engineer would rather set a curve once and know exactly what it will do on the third lap.
Built for World Superbike
Honda designed the 2020 Fireblade around homologation rather than around road tests. The SP's specification reflects a bike expected to be raced.
Two Hundred and Seventeen Horsepower
From a litre four revving to 14.500 with finger-follower valve actuation taken from the RC213V. Very little on this engine is conventional.
Nothing Cut
Honda's own connector. On a bike likely to be returned to standard before sale, an unmodified loom protects a substantial amount of value.
Fitment by Year
This covers 2020 to 2024. Honda revised the electronic suspension afterwards and the emulator moved with it.
Part of a Larger Job
Nobody fits this alone. It arrives alongside a shock, a spring rate calculation and usually a fork change, and it is the least expensive item on that list.
A Longer Swingarm
Honda stretched the RR-R's swingarm noticeably for drive out of a corner, which is a decision taken with a race track in mind rather than a mountain road. It also means the rear suspension is working harder than on the previous Fireblade, which is precisely why teams want to control its damping themselves.
