A Bike Designed for the Grid
Honda built the RR-R to win World Superbike races, and everything about it follows from that: the bore and stroke, the finger followers, the aerodynamics. Fitting a cluster that drops the road controls is simply the owner agreeing with the motorcycle's own argument.
Fourteen and a Half Thousand RPM
At the top of a gear the whole cockpit is vibrating. A moulded switch with a soft action gives no clear confirmation under those conditions. A milled housing transmits the detent to the thumb rather than absorbing it, which is the difference between pressing a button and knowing it registered.
Standard Loom Retained
This is a race switch rather than a superbike one, so no racing harness or aftermarket dashboard is required. Honda's own connector is used and the factory electronics continue to work, which keeps the conversion within reach of a rider preparing their own bike.
What Comes Off With the Lights
Once the indicators are gone from the bodywork, the buttons that operated them occupy positions the thumb searches without reward. Removing them lets the remaining controls sit further apart, which is the entire purpose of a race cluster.
Black or Titanium
Two finishes, both restrained. On a motorcycle wearing race bodywork and a number board, a cockpit that draws no attention is easier to read at speed than one with a bright component in it.
The 2024 Revision
Honda reworked the RR-R for 2024 with revised aerodynamics, shorter gearing and recalibrated electronics. The handlebar interface was not among the changes, which is why one part covers the whole run from 2020 to the present.
Machined Against a Moulding
The original assembly is two mouldings clipped around the bar, and the buttons that sit across that joint lose their definition first. A body cut from a single block has no joint in that plane at all.
