DescriptionThe whole story▼
The JP CJP 084H manages the fuel mixture on the FZ8 across the whole operating range, which is what a racing exhaust and an open filter actually require.
Key Features
- Yamaha FZ8 (2011–2015)
- Fully programmable fuel map, written on a PC
- Complete two-axis management: engine speed and load
- For engines with an aftermarket exhaust or air filter
- Plug-and-play with model-specific wiring
- Unplugs at any time, nothing is written to the motorcycle
A Detuned R1
Yamaha took the older four, reduced the capacity and mapped it for the road. The FZ8 is more capable than its reputation ever allowed.
Five Hundred Grams
Heavier than the preset module because there is more inside it. On any motorcycle that is a mounting question rather than a weight question.
Mounting the Unit
Under the seat or beneath the tank, secured and dry, with the USB connection reachable without dismantling half the motorcycle. That last point is worth thinking about before the cable ties go on.
Not a Standard-Bike Product
An unmodified motorcycle with the factory exhaust has no use for a programmable map. The manufacturer says as much by listing racing modifications as the reason.
Why Programmable at All
Because no two modified motorcycles are the same. A different silencer, a different filter and a different climate produce a different requirement, and only a map can follow all three.
Weather
A map developed cold runs slightly rich when it is hot. The standard controller absorbs most of that; the remainder is the accepted cost of a fixed map.
Heat Under the Seat
The unit lives where an engine has been working. It is built for that; pressing it against a rail that carries exhaust heat is still worth avoiding.
Steady State Versus Transient
A dyno maps steady conditions well and transitions badly. The hesitation off a closed throttle usually has to be solved on a road, whatever the dyno sheet says.
What a Session Actually Looks Like
A quiet road or a dyno, a laptop connected, a wideband reading logged, one region of the map adjusted, then the same run repeated to see whether the number moved. Three or four rounds of that fill an evening.
