DescriptionThe whole story▼
Twenty minutes. That is the whole job — one clamp, two springs, and the standard silencer is off a GSX-S1000. Few exhausts in this catalogue are as quick, and none of the quick ones save 1.1 kg.
Key Features
- 1.4 kg against the standard 2.5 kg: 1.1 kg and 44 per cent less
- 2.1 PS more at 8,500 rpm and 2.0 Nm at 8,300 rpm
- Titanium outer sleeve for a genuine racing look
- Carbon fibre end cap
- Optimised to meet EC and ECE type approval without giving up the sportier sound
- Approximately twenty minutes to fit
Two Different Motorcycles, One Silencer
Suzuki built the GSX-S1000 as a naked roadster and the GSX-S1000F as a faired sports tourer around the same K5 GSX-R engine, then added the Katana in 2019 with the same platform under retro bodywork. All three take this silencer.
That is worth knowing on the used market. A Katana and a GSX-S1000F look nothing alike, but the part number does not care.
Approval Without a Compromise in Sound
Akrapovic states plainly that the muffler assembly was optimised to meet EC and ECE approval without compromising the improved and sporty sound. That is the harder engineering problem: a legal silencer has to hit a noise figure at a defined test speed, and most designs get there by simply damping more.
Both approvals are in place, so the exhaust needs no entry in the vehicle papers and no individual inspection anywhere in Europe.
Gains Where the Engine Is Working
2.1 PS at 8,500 rpm and 2.0 Nm at 8,300 — both close together and both in the part of the range a GSX-S1000 actually uses when it is being ridden hard. This is a K5 GSX-R1000 engine detuned for the road, and it still wants revs.
What the Slash-One Means
The /1 at the end of the part number is a revision. Akrapovic keeps the base number when a part is superseded by an improved version rather than replaced by a different design, and appends a number to mark the newer one.
It matters when ordering. S-S10SO15-HAPT without the suffix is the earlier revision and is no longer the current part; what you want for these machines is this one.
Fitting It Yourself
Twenty minutes puts this within reach of an owner with a socket set and a bike on a paddock stand. There is no ECU work, no lambda sensor to move and no fairing to remove. Keep the standard silencer — it is worth something at resale, and this exhaust does not damage the case for putting the bike back to standard later.
Fitment and Compatibility
S-S10SO15-HAPT/1 covers the Suzuki GSX-S1000 and GSX-S1000F from 2015 through 2020 and the Katana from 2019 through 2020. Suzuki revised the platform in 2021, and those machines take a different part.
