DescriptionThe whole story▼
The resonator is hidden. Akrapovic tucked it under the bodywork behind the lower fairings, so the only visible part of the system is the muffler exiting on the right — which on a small sportsbike keeps the silhouette clean in a way an exposed mid-section does not.
Key Features
- Titanium outer sleeve, end cap, link pipe and headers
- Resonator concealed under the body, hidden by the lower fairings
- Muffler exits on the right side of the motorcycle
- Heat shield styled after those on the Yamaha R6 and R1
- Noise insert included
- Developed for racetracks and closed courses only
Why the Insert Is in the Box
Akrapovic explains it directly: the open version of the system has no catalytic converter and was developed for track use, so a noise insert is supplied. Fitted, it brings the exhaust closer to what a circuit's sound check will accept.
That is a more honest framing than most. The insert is not there to make the system legal — nothing makes it legal — it is there so the bike can pass scrutineering.
A Heat Shield From the Bigger Bikes
Akrapovic styled the shield after the ones it builds for the R6 and the R1. On a motorcycle Yamaha positioned below both of those, that visual link is deliberate — the R7 is the entry point to the R-series, and the exhaust is dressed accordingly.
Titanium Throughout
Sleeve, end cap, link pipe and headers all in high-grade titanium. On an Evolution Line that is expected; what is worth noting is that the R7 is a 689 cc twin rather than a superbike, and a full titanium system on a machine at this level is unusual.
The R7 in 2026
Yamaha's R7 uses the CP2 twin from the MT-07 in a sportsbike chassis, aimed at club racing and trackdays rather than at outright performance. A competition-only exhaust for it fits that positioning exactly.
Remapping Recommended
Akrapovic notes that a fresh ECU map delivers the best performance and throttle response with this system. On a competition-only exhaust with the catalytic converter removed, that is not a surprise — and it is worth budgeting for alongside the part.
The Exit on the Right
With the resonator hidden under the body, the muffler is the only visible part and it exits on the right. On a motorcycle whose fairing is otherwise symmetrical, that asymmetry is a deliberate styling decision as much as a packaging one.
One Model Year So Far
Yamaha's 2026 R7 is the machine this system was developed for. Earlier R7s take a different part, and the fitment list will grow if Yamaha keeps the exhaust route — but as it stands this covers one year.
Competition Only, Stated Plainly
Akrapovic calls this a competition-only system in its first sentence. There is no approved variant, no insert that makes it legal and no configuration in which it belongs on a public road.
If your R7 is registered and ridden on the road, this is not the article — and we would rather say so here than let the specification table carry the news.
Road Approval
None. Developed for use on racetracks or closed courses only.
