DescriptionThe whole story▼
A Monster 1200 S bought as an everyday bike soon teaches its rider to read the town in wet weather. Zebra crossings, painted arrows, coloured bus lanes and manhole covers all look like road, yet in the rain they grip far less than the tarmac around them. The S version brings upgraded suspension and brakes, but no tyre has much to hold on to when a painted line coincides with a braking point. That is when fronts wash out at low speed. For the Monster 1200 S of 2014 to 2018, Accossato makes the PF05, two black front axle sliders.
Key Features
- Accossato PF05 front axle sliders for the Ducati Monster 1200 S, 2014 to 2018
- Front fork protection as a pair, left and right
- Aluminium with plastic, black
- Accossato supplies spacers, screws and all further mounting parts
- Built to take the first contact in a slide or tip-over
- Can be combined with the PP069 and the TP080
- No German ABE on record; for track and competition use
Construction and Material Quality
Accossato's PF05 is a two-piece set: one black protector for each side, each made of aluminium and plastic. The maker packs spacers, screws and all other parts that the installation needs with them, so the kit arrives complete. Their purpose is easy to state. If the Monster 1200 S loses its front and goes down, the sliders should hit the road before the fork legs do, and that can make the difference between a scuffed slider and a more expensive repair at the front. There is no promise of an unmarked bike, and once a slider has been badly ground or bent it has earned its replacement.
Reading a Wet Town
Commuters who ride through the winter develop a sense for slippery surfaces that newcomers lack, and most of it can be learned. Paint is the obvious one: white lines, arrows, cycle symbols and the resin used for coloured lanes all lose grip in the wet. Metal is worse, whether it is a manhole cover, a drain grating or the expansion joint of a bridge. Spilled diesel and the polished tarmac at junctions, where cars brake and accelerate all day, complete the list. The technique is to do the hard work before you reach them: brake while the tyre is still on clean tarmac, cross the slippery patch upright and without changing speed, and only then lean or turn. On a Monster 1200 S with its strong brakes, the temptation is to brake late; in the wet, resist it. Leave more distance to the car in front, since it may stop harder than you expect, and select the gentlest of the riding modes when the roads are soaked.
Fitment and Compatibility
For the Monster 1200 S, Accossato lists the PF05 from 2014 to 2018, and we have linked the sliders to these years. The same model can also take the PP069 rear axle sliders, which Accossato gives for 2014 to 2016, and the TP080 crash pads for 2014 to 2018. Among the other bikes in our shop with the same front pair are the Monster 1200 R and the Multistrada 1200 Enduro. Tighten the screws to the values in the workshop manual, then turn the bars to both locks and spin the wheel to confirm that nothing rubs on your Monster 1200 S.
Road Approval
For the PF05 we can show neither a German ABE nor a test document, and we therefore supply it for racing and competition use.
Scope of Delivery
