DescriptionThe whole story▼

Most underground car parks are reached by a steep ramp, and riding down one at walking pace is a small test of how finely you can meter a brake. On the Aprilia Mana 850 that test belongs to the right hand. The Mana has an automatic transmission and no clutch lever, so no engaged first gear holds the bike back on the way down: once the revs fall to idle, the drive lets go and the bike simply rolls. The Accossato EDF023 is a CNC-machined front brake lever for the Mana 850 of 2007 to 2016, with adjustable reach and three blade lengths.

Key Features

  • Front brake lever for the Aprilia Mana 850, model years 2007 to 2016
  • Takes the place of the stock lever on the original master cylinder
  • Reach adjuster close to the pivot
  • Standard blade of approximately 138 mm, made in all seven colours
  • Short blade in blue, gold, green, orange or silver; long blade in blue, gold, green or orange
  • CNC-machined aluminium, anodised, with a black hub
  • Fixed blade without a folding joint
  • No German ABE documented; sold for track use

Construction and Material Quality

The EDF023 starts life as a solid piece of aluminium and is shaped on CNC machines rather than cast in a mould. It is then anodised in two tones: the hub, which houses the pivot bore and the reach adjuster, always comes out black, and the blade takes whichever of the seven colours you order. Anodising turns the outer skin of the aluminium into a hard oxide that holds the dye, so the colour is part of the lever and not a coat lying on top of it. The blade has no hinge; the pressure of your fingers reaches the master cylinder through one continuous part.

Down the Ramp at Walking Pace

On a motorcycle with a manual gearbox, a steep ramp is normally taken in first gear with the clutch engaged, so the engine holds the bike back and the brakes only add the rest. The Mana 850 works differently. Below a certain engine speed its transmission disconnects the drive, and at walking pace the brakes set the speed on their own. That calls for steady, light pressure on the front brake, held for several seconds and changed by tiny amounts, together with the rear brake: little force, a lot of control. A hand that is not stretched feels small changes in pressure far better, so set the EDF023's reach until the blade meets the middle joints of your fingers with the wrist straight, then try it on a quiet slope before relying on it in a busy garage. For this kind of fine work the standard blade feels closest to the original lever, while the long blade, made in gold, orange, blue or green, spreads the load across the whole hand and makes a gentle squeeze easier to hold on the Mana 850.

Fitment and Compatibility

Accossato lists the EDF023 for the Mana 850 from 2007 to 2016, with a single entry for the model, and the lever replaces the standard part on the bike's original front brake master cylinder. Because the Mana has no clutch lever, there is no second Accossato lever to pair it with, and this product covers the right-hand side only. The faired Mana 850 GT appears in our range as a separate product.

Road Approval

No German ABE has been documented for the EDF023, so we offer it for use on closed circuits.
