DescriptionThe whole story

Comfort under braking stops being a soft word when a passenger is aboard the Kawasaki Z1000SX. The reference is the T004 - 50.0 mm of friction height over 71.5 mm of length, on the Tokico fitment the Z1000SX uses. The T004 in EXR is the harder of the two mixtures ZCOO currently lists for the Z1000SX.

Key Features

  • Durability equal to or better than EXC Endurance, which itself lasted around twice as long as EX Race
  • Initial bite in the order of EXC Endurance, with a progressive build-up that returns the modulation EXC traded away
  • A pad geometry drawn for this caliper family rather than shared across three of them, which is why the T004 fills its window
  • Suits the Z1000SX on the road as readily as on a circuit, which is what separates the ceramic platform from a pure race sinter
  • Low noise and low rotor scoring, which on a Z1000SX means the discs outlast several sets of pads
  • Better cold performance and higher thermal stability than the compound it succeeds - fewer laps lost bringing the pad in

Construction and Material Quality

The T004 is a racing part in the way it is made, not only in the way it is sold. On a face of 71.5 by 50.0 mm even a small amount of plate flex changes where the pressure lands. It is also why ZCOO can quote fade resistance beyond 600 degrees for the T004 without qualifying it.

Performance and Feel

The change from EXC to EXR is not only in the friction mixture. The T004 in EXR keeps EXC's authority and loses its abruptness. For a tourer like the Z1000SX that is worth more than any headline figure.

Fitment and Compatibility

Fitment covers the Kawasaki Z1000SX from 2011 to 2023 with the Tokico caliper. Before ordering, check that your caliper takes a pad of 71.5 mm length and 50.0 mm height. The same T004 shape covers 18 further machines in the 2026 catalogue. The reference is a front pad; ZCOO lists no rear equivalent.

Road Approval

No ECE R90 type approval is documented for this pad. It appears neither in ZCOO's own catalogue nor on the European distributor's site, and no approval number is printed on the packaging data available to us. ZCOO itself describes the compound as suited to competition machines and road machines alike, but that is a description of the mixture, not a type approval. Until the distributor confirms an approval in writing, treat this as a track and competition part: in Germany a replacement brake pad without ECE R90 approval may not be fitted to a motorcycle used on public roads. Ask us before ordering if you need this clarified for your machine.
