DescriptionThe whole story▼

Blank Mat strips the RS Jet down to the one thing every other decor in this line has to work around: the shape itself, in a single flat black that shows every panel line and vent scoop without a graphic competing for attention. It is the decor Shark itself starts a colour range from, and on an open-face helmet where the visor mechanism, the side pods and the spoiler line do most of the visual work anyway, a flat finish is not a lack of effort — it is the version that shows the engineering plainest.

A shell built for weight, not for a badge

Strip away the marketing language and what matters here is what the shell is made from and what that buys you. Shark builds the RS Jet's structure as a composite shell with multi-density EPS underneath — the lighter-weight sibling in this pairing, distinct from the pricier variant Shark sells alongside it that swaps in a different shell material for less mass again at a higher price. This one weighs 1,480 g for its first, smallest shell size, a genuinely light figure for an open-face lid and the number that matters most to a rider wearing it for a full day rather than a photo.

No chin bar, said plainly

An open-face helmet protects the skull and leaves the lower face uncovered by design, and the RS Jet is no exception: there is no chin bar, no coverage across the jaw, nothing standing between your chin and the road in a low-side. That is not a flaw specific to this helmet — it is what choosing a jet shape over a full-face means, and it belongs in its own sentence here rather than folded quietly into a features list. If chin protection matters more to you than an open field of view and easy on/off, a full-face model is the honest answer, not this one.

What ECE 22.06 actually tests

The certification on this shell is ECE 22.06, the standard that took over as the mandatory EU approval for newly homologated helmets from January 2024, replacing 22.05. The old test struck a shell at five fixed points; this one strikes eighteen, across several impact speeds rather than one, and adds an oblique-impact test against an abrasive anvil that the old standard never ran at all — a glancing, twisting hit rather than a straight drop, scored for the rotational forces that kind of impact sends into the brain. Every accessory fitted at test time, visor included, stays on the helmet during testing. The price list itself reads Norme 2206 with no FIM suffix: a road-approval code, not a competition one.

Weight as a number your neck carries all day

1,480 g sits toward the lighter end of what a helmet in this class typically weighs, and the number is worth more than a spec-sheet line: every gram of it rides above your neck through a full commute, a weekend ride, a whole day in the saddle, not just the instant of an impact it exists to survive. An open shell without a chin bar has less structure to build than a full-face equivalent, and the weight reflects that directly.

Ventilation on an open shell

An open-face helmet does a large share of its own cooling simply by leaving the lower face exposed to the airstream, and the RS Jet's shell is shaped to let air move rather than fight it — side air inlets feed the visor area directly rather than routing air around a chin bar that is not there to route around in the first place.

Visor: VZ360, side-locking

The fitted VZ360 visor locks and unlocks from the side rather than centrally, is designed as a long-trip visor with free positioning rather than fixed detents only, and ships pre-equipped with a Max Vision Pinlock insert whose tension is adjustable rather than snapped into one fixed setting. It carries anti-scratch treatment and a four-point anchoring system holding it to the shell. Every iridium and dark-tint version Shark sells for this visor family is marked for racing use only — a separate purchase for track days, not a road-legal option on this shell.

Wind noise, honestly

An open helmet is louder at speed than a full-face by simple construction — there is no chin bar sealing air away from your ears, and the lower edge of the visor sits closer to the airstream than a closed shell's chin vents ever do. That is true of every jet helmet made, this one included, and no manufacturer decibel figure is published for the RS Jet to soften that fact with a number, so none is invented here.

Where the RS Jet sits on price

Inside Shark's current open-face range, the Skwal Jet opens the ladder from €189.99, the Skwal Jet Cup follows from €239.99, and the Skwal i3 Jet with its LED brake light runs €289.99 to €349.99. This Blank Mat decor is the single entry point to this particular line at €249.99 — the pricier variant of this same helmet, built with a different, lighter shell, starts noticeably higher again from €279.99.

Model Price range
Skwal Jet €189.99–€279.99
RS Jet (this helmet) €249.99
Skwal Jet Cup €239.99–€309.99
Skwal i3 Jet €289.99–€349.99

Spare parts, later

A scratched or fogged visor is a spare part on this helmet, not a reason to replace it. The VZ360 visor family and its Pinlock 120 insert are stocked under Shark's own part numbers, shared across the RS Jet line, so a replacement stays available well after any one decor has cycled out.

Fit from the shell

Six sizes, XS through XXL, are offered across this helmet's range. Shark's own materials for this specific decor do not state how many physical shell moulds those six sizes are split across, so no claim is made here about a second, larger shell size the way it can be stated for some other models in this range — where the number is confirmed it is given outright, and where it is not, as here, it stays unstated rather than guessed.

What this helmet does not have

Stated plainly: no SHARP star rating exists for the RS Jet — the UK programme has not tested this model, or the pricier lighter-shell version sold alongside it, under any name found in its own listings. No MIPS, no DOT or Snell homologation, no published wind-noise figure, and no LED or lighting system of any kind — this is a conventional open-face helmet without the brake-light hardware fitted to the Skwal i3 Jet sold alongside it. This decor, Blank Mat, is also the only one of this helmet currently listed in the 2027 range.

In the box

The helmet arrives with the visor fitted and its Max Vision Pinlock 120 insert already mounted, reflective bands for low-light visibility, and Shark's standard documentation. Sharktooth and SENA intercom compatibility is built into the shell, so adding a comms unit later does not require a different helmet.
