Function
Öhlins gives it as 250 mm, 500 mm; nothing about that is approximate. The eye takes the entire load path from wheel to chassis. Spherical bearings in the eye let the damper move without binding as the linkage arcs. The spherical bearing in an end eye lets the damper follow the linkage without side load.

Part number 60005-04 is unambiguous; the description alone is not, because Öhlins uses similar wording across sizes. Check dimension a 250 mm, dimension b 500 mm against what you have removed; a close size is not the same part. The cap seals against an O-ring, so its face finish matters. A worn end eye bearing is a common source of rear-end vagueness that gets blamed on damping.
