DescriptionThe whole story▼

Öhlins part number 06411-15 is a shock absorber spring rated at 62 N/mm, 255 mm long with a 63.5 mm inner diameter. A rear spring matched to rider and load keeps the chassis attitude where the factory intended it.

Key Features

  • Tapered-wound, constant rate
  • 140 mm of usable stroke
  • Free length 255 mm
  • Öhlins part number 06411-15
  • Measured spring rate 62 N/mm
  • Powder-coated yellow
  • Inner diameter 63.5 mm

Manufacture and Tolerance

Two units carrying the same part number behave the same way out of the box, which is the whole point of testing each one. Every unit is dyno-tested against the curve held for its part number, not sampled from a batch. Anodising is hard-coat rather than decorative, which matters on a component exposed to road salt and stone chips.

The Numbers That Matter

Dimensionally this is a 63.5 mm × 255 mm spring; within that envelope Öhlins offers a range of rates, and this one is 62 N/mm.

Where This Rate Belongs

Firm rates also suit machines carrying luggage as a matter of course. If the suspension bottoms out or the geometry collapses under load, this is the direction to go. Heavier riders, two-up use and track days all push the choice towards this end. Ride quality on the road is decided by rate first and damping second.

What the Rear Spring Decides

Rear spring rate sets ride height and static sag, and those two decide the chassis attitude before any damping click matters. Adding a pillion or luggage changes the rear load enough that the standard rate stops working properly. Öhlins supplies most of its shocks without a spring precisely so the rate can be matched to the rider rather than averaged.

Applications

Any workshop with the fork or shock in front of it can answer whether this spring fits — the three figures above are all it needs. Öhlins offers rates in defined steps so a change can be made in one direction at a time rather than by guesswork. Öhlins builds springs to dimensions rather than to model lists, so the question is always the same: does the diameter fit, does the length fit, and is the rate right for the rider?

Fitting

Any suspension workshop can fit these; the fork does not need to leave the bike for long. Öhlins states the oil and the air-gap for this application — both are part of the setting, not a detail. Once fitted, ride the machine before making damping changes: the new rate alters what the clicks do.

Road Approval

Road approval: no separate certificate. The spring changes the rate, not the construction of the fork, and is treated as a service part.

Fitting and Setup Service

Fitting matters as much as the part. We are an authorised Öhlins service centre and carry out installation, servicing and setup ourselves — get in touch and we will arrange it alongside your order.
