DescriptionThe whole story▼

Öhlins part number 06310-10 is a shock absorber spring rated at 52 N/mm, 245 mm long with a 61 mm inner diameter. A rear spring matched to rider and load keeps the chassis attitude where the factory intended it.

Key Features

  • Powder-coated yellow
  • Öhlins part number 06310-10
  • Free length 245 mm
  • 140 mm of usable stroke
  • Measured spring rate 52 N/mm
  • Inner diameter 61 mm
  • Straight-wound, constant rate

How Öhlins Makes Them

Anodising is hard-coat rather than decorative, which matters on a component exposed to road salt and stone chips. The finish is applied after setting, which means the coating does not affect the rate. The Öhlins part number is stamped on the unit, so its specification can be looked up years later.

The Numbers That Matter

Dimensionally this is a 61 mm × 245 mm spring; within that envelope Öhlins offers a range of rates, and this one is 52 N/mm.

What This Rate Does

This is where most riders of average weight land once static sag has been set to specification. If you are unsure and close to average weight in full kit, this is the sensible starting point. A mid rate balances support under braking against compliance over the surface, which is why it is the usual starting point. Ride quality on the road is decided by rate first and damping second.

How a Rear Spring Works

Progressive springs change rate through the stroke, which suits machines with little travel and a lot of load. On a linkage-equipped machine the wheel moves several millimetres for every millimetre the damper moves, and the spring rate has to account for that ratio. A spring that has settled in service sits shorter than new, which quietly lowers the bike and steepens the steering.

Applications

There is no model list for this size because the spring is a dimensional part: it fits whatever fork it physically fits. This is a service part in the proper sense — it wears, it settles, and replacing it restores what the suspension was designed to do. Öhlins offers rates in defined steps so a change can be made in one direction at a time rather than by guesswork.

Fitting

The fork legs come off, the springs are swapped and the oil level is reset — half a day in most workshops. Once fitted, ride the machine before making damping changes: the new rate alters what the clicks do. Both legs are done together, and both take the same rate.

Road Approval

Road approval: no separate certificate. The spring changes the rate, not the construction of the fork, and is treated as a service part.

Fitting and Setup Service

We are an authorised Öhlins service centre, so the installation does not have to be your problem: we fit and set up Öhlins components in our own workshop. Ask us when you order and we will include the work.
