DescriptionThe whole story▼

Öhlins part number 25059-02 is a shock absorber spring rated at 32 N/mm, 60 mm long with a 30 mm inner diameter. A rear spring matched to rider and load keeps the chassis attitude where the factory intended it.

Key Features

  • Measured spring rate 32 N/mm
  • Öhlins part number 25059-02
  • Inner diameter 30 mm
  • Free length 60 mm

Why the Rate Holds

Machining, anodising, assembly and testing all happen in the same building rather than across a supply chain. The wire is progressively wound where the application calls for it and straight where it does not. Production is Öhlins' own in Sweden, and the tolerance on the rate is what separates these from a generic replacement.

Size and Rate

Free length 60 mm, inner diameter 30 mm, rate 32 N/mm — those three figures define the part completely.

Where This Rate Belongs

Comfort and grip come from the spring moving early; this is the end of the range where that happens. On a machine ridden solo and mostly on the road, softer is often the honest choice. Lighter riders usually end up a step or two below the factory rate once sag is measured properly. Ride quality on the road is decided by rate first and damping second.

What the Rear Spring Decides

The damper can only control the spring it is given; the wrong rate makes every setting a compromise. Rear spring rate sets ride height and static sag, and those two decide the chassis attitude before any damping click matters. A spring that has settled in service sits shorter than new, which quietly lowers the bike and steepens the steering.

Applications

A spring is one of the few suspension parts that is genuinely interchangeable: same bore, same free length, and it goes in. This spring is chosen by its dimensions rather than by motorcycle model: check inner diameter, free length and rate against the fork it is going into. Sag figures, not feel, decide whether a rate is right. Öhlins publishes the targets for its own units.

Installation

Oil level is measured from the top of the tube with the fork compressed and the spring removed. Any suspension workshop can fit these; the fork does not need to leave the bike for long. Set static sag after fitting; the rate is only right if the sag figure lands where Öhlins specifies.

Road Approval

Road approval: none is issued for springs as such — they replace an existing component of the same function. Any model-specific approval is listed under Applications.

Fitting and Setup Service

Öhlins components deliver what they promise once they are fitted and set up properly. As an authorised Öhlins service centre we do exactly that in house — installation, service and setup. Simply ask if you would like us to take care of it.
