DescriptionThe whole story▼

Öhlins part number 60360-06 is a shock absorber spring rated at 21-26 N/mm, 200 mm long with a 46 mm inner diameter. A rear spring matched to rider and load keeps the chassis attitude where the factory intended it.

Key Features

  • Inner diameter 46 mm
  • Free length 200 mm
  • Powder-coated yellow
  • Progressively wound
  • Measured spring rate 21-26 N/mm (progressive)
  • 120 mm of usable stroke
  • Öhlins part number 60360-06

Why the Rate Holds

Rates are offered in defined steps, so a change can be made in one direction at a time. Every Öhlins dealer can re-valve the unit, because the shim stack is a documented, serviceable assembly. Materials read unremarkably on paper — aluminium, steel, nitrogen — and the difference lies in how precisely they are made.

Dimensions

Öhlins holds the free length at 200 mm and the inner diameter at 46 mm across this rate range, so moving up or down a rate changes nothing about the installation.

How a Rear Spring Works

Öhlins sells rear springs separately precisely because rider weight varies more than machine weight does. Preload adjusts sag within a rate; it does not change the rate, and no amount of it will rescue a spring that is wrong. Progressive springs change rate through the stroke, which suits machines with little travel and a lot of load.

Applications

This spring is chosen by its dimensions rather than by motorcycle model: check inner diameter, free length and rate against the fork it is going into. The safest way to choose is by static sag: set the target figure, and the rate follows from whether you can reach it with preload. If you are replacing a sagged original, measure its free length first — a tired spring often measures several millimetres short.

Fitting

Springs are supplied ready to fit; no cutting, grinding or packing is needed. Set static sag after fitting; the rate is only right if the sag figure lands where Öhlins specifies. Once fitted, ride the machine before making damping changes: the new rate alters what the clicks do.

Road Approval

Road approval: none is issued for springs as such — they replace an existing component of the same function. Any model-specific approval is listed under Applications.

Fitting and Setup Service

Öhlins components deliver what they promise once they are fitted and set up properly. As an authorised Öhlins service centre we do exactly that in house — installation, service and setup. Simply ask if you would like us to take care of it.
