DescriptionThe whole story▼
The Panigale 899 arrived to broaden Ducati's superbike range below the 1199, and today a good number of these V-twins live a second career on club circuits rather than in showrooms. A rider converting an 899 for trackday or club use usually meets the factory AIS secondary air system early on, a smog-control device with no job once the bike is off the public road. Removing it leaves two open ports behind the cylinder head where the AIS valves used to sit, and those ports need a proper cover rather than a loose plug. Melotti Racing's AIS Valve Cover Set, sold as a pair for the Panigale 899 built between 2013 and 2016, closes them cleanly.

Construction and Material Quality
Melotti machines the AIS.DU.2111 covers from aluminium, one for each side of the cylinder head where the Panigale's factory AIS valves sit. The design lets a mechanic fit the covers without stripping out the reed valves underneath, because the existing valve gasket still does its sealing job under the new cover rather than against the original lid. Two ports that used to feed the secondary air system into the head are left open once the AIS pipework is gone, and Melotti supplies M8 set screws to close them. The pre-drilled holes behind the covers are not tapped at the factory, so a thread has to be cut before the screws can be fitted, a small job that goes more smoothly on the bench than with the engine already reassembled.
From Showroom V-Twin to Pit Lane Regular
Most 899s that end up on a club grid started life as road bikes, and stripping the emissions hardware is usually one of the first jobs on the list, alongside removing lights, mirrors and the number plate. The AIS system is simple to unbolt but leaves bare ports that would otherwise invite dirt, oil mist or a stray bolt into the cylinder head. Covering them properly, rather than taping over the holes, is the kind of detail scrutineers look for and the kind that saves an engine from a lazy afternoon's work. For an owner converting their first 899 for the track, it is a small, early step toward a bike built for the circuit rather than the commute.
Fitment and Compatibility
Melotti's price list gives the AIS.DU.2111 set for the Panigale 899 of 2013 to 2016, and our listing follows those model years. The identical covers are catalogued for the related 959, and for the 1199 and 1299 families built in the same period, since these V-twins share the same cylinder head layout around the AIS valves. Melotti does not list any other engine cover for the 899, so this pair is the only AIS delete solution the maker offers for this particular Panigale.
Road Approval
Melotti has no ABE on file for the AIS.DU.2111, nor do we, and no parts certificate or EC type-approval exists for it either. Treat it as a part for the racetrack and other closed circuits: fitting it to a bike used on public roads in Germany without a separate entry in the registration documents is not permitted, and race organisers set their own technical rules for any event.
Scope of Delivery
The pair of AIS.DU.2111 covers ships together, one for each side of the cylinder head, with the M8 set screws needed to plug the ducts behind them once the covers are fitted. No tap for cutting the thread is included, so bring your own M8 tap to the workshop.
