DescriptionThe whole story

The ZX-4 RR is Kawasaki's four-cylinder 400 — a genuinely unusual thing in 2024, and a bike bought almost exclusively by people who intend to rev it. On a machine sold on the strength of its top end, a steel ignition barrel on the top yoke is the most obviously removable weight there is. JP KS KA004 removes it.

Key Features

  • Cut for the Kawasaki ZX-4 RR, 2024 through 2026
  • Replaces the ignition block, barrel and key entirely
  • Roughly 350 g saved — a real proportion on a 400
  • Machined Ergal billet housing, anodised black
  • IP69K push button, sealed for pressure washing
  • Key Box included for the Kawasaki immobiliser

Small Bike, Same Barrel

Manufacturers do not scale ignition assemblies to engine capacity. The lock, barrel and bracket on a ZX-4 RR weigh close to what the equivalent parts weigh on a litre bike, which means the 350 g saved is a larger share of a smaller total — and it comes off the steering head, where mass costs the most in turn-in effort.

Shared With the ZX-10 R

JetPrime lists this part number against the ZX-10 R and ZX-10 RR as well as the ZX-4 RR. Kawasaki uses a common ignition mounting and connector across the current ZX range, which is why one switch covers bikes as different as a 400 four and a superbike.

Fitment and Compatibility

Road Approval

None. This part removes a component covered by the motorcycle's type approval and is sold for closed-circuit and competition use only.

In the Box

Supplied as a finished assembly: the anodised Ergal switch body with the IP69K button fitted, the Key Box housing for the original key, and the harness tail that mates to the Kawasaki ignition plug. Nothing needs sourcing separately and there is no wiring to interpret — the connector that came off the barrel goes onto the switch.
