DescriptionThe whole story▼
The JP ES 047 lifts the Speed Triple 1050's evaporative canister out and closes the circuit behind it.
Key Features
- Triumph Speed Triple 1050 (2018–2020)
- Removes the evaporative canister and its hoses
- Vents the tank through a proper fitting
- Closes the purge valve circuit
- Clears the space behind the engine
- Standard parts refit at any time
Cheap Now
Values have fallen far enough that a well-kept 1050 is among the most motorcycle anybody can buy for the money, and the engine is famously durable.
A British Institution
The Speed Triple has been in production almost continuously since 1994, which very few models of any kind can claim.
The Roll-Over Valve
Part of the same plumbing, intended to stop fuel escaping if the bike goes over. It leaves with everything else and the vent fitting takes over its job.
Emissions Inspection
Where the test includes a visual check, an absent canister is a straightforward failure. Refitting it before the appointment is an evening's work.
What the Vent Fitting Does
Admits air as fuel is used and holds petrol back when the motorcycle goes over. Both jobs matter and a cut hose does only the first.
Access Is the Real Benefit
On several Triumphs the canister sits directly in front of the rear shock's preload adjuster. Removing it turns a job that needs a short tool and good language into one that takes two minutes.
The Job Is Mostly Bodywork
Reaching the assembly takes longer than removing it, which is why doing this alongside a service or an exhaust change makes so much more sense than doing it alone.
Why Removal Is So Common
Because the assembly occupies the most contested space on the motorcycle, has a limited life, cannot be serviced and produces symptoms that are difficult to diagnose. Every one of those is a reason on its own and together they are compelling.
Not a Difficult Decision
For most owners the space and the reliability outweigh a system they never knew they had. The legal position is the only genuine consideration.
