DescriptionThe whole story▼
The front sprocket cover has the dirtiest job on the motorcycle. It sits over the countershaft, catches the chain lube that gets flung off on the first hot kilometre, and takes whatever the front wheel sends back along the underside of the engine. It is also, on a DesertX, in plain view from the left.
Key Features
- Covers the front sprocket and countershaft area on the left side of the engine
- Carbon does not corrode where chain lube, road salt and water collect
- Fits the original mounting points with the standard screws
- Four surfaces: clear coat, matt, satin and raw
- Comes off in minutes for chain and sprocket inspection, which on an adventure bike happens often
Chosen for Cleaning, Not for Weight
Be honest about what a part this size saves: not much. Its case rests on two other things. The first is corrosion — an aluminium cover in this position pits where lube and salt sit in the recesses, and a painted one loses its paint. Carbon has nothing to give up chemically, so it cleans back to the same surface it started with.
The second is access. Chain maintenance on a bike used off tarmac is a regular event, and a cover that comes off cleanly and goes back without a fight is worth more in practice than fifty grams on a spec sheet. The fixings are the original ones, so nothing about that routine changes.
If the bike sees serious mud, order it raw. A clear coat over chain fling is a surface you will be polishing rather than wiping.
Fitment and Compatibility
Ducati DesertX, 2022 to 2026, on the standard countershaft arrangement. Uses the original screws. Check clearance after fitting if the bike runs a non-standard front sprocket.
Road Approval
Fullsix publishes neither an ABE nor an EC type-approval for this cover. A sprocket cover can count as a guard in a technical inspection, so confirm the requirement for your registration before road use.
Living With It
Expect this cover to be the dirtiest carbon on the motorcycle within a week. Chain lube migrates outwards on the first hot run and lands here, and no routing or lube choice entirely prevents it. The good news is that carbon does not care: a wipe with a cloth and a mild degreaser returns it to the surface it started with, which is not true of a painted cover.
Avoid aggressive solvents on the lacquered versions — brake cleaner sprayed at a clear coat will dull it over time. On raw carbon that concern disappears entirely, which is the practical argument for ordering this particular part raw regardless of what the rest of the bike wears.
