DescriptionThe whole story▼

The end cap is the last hundred millimetres of the exhaust and the part of it everyone sees from behind. On the DesertX the original is a pressed metal trim; the Fullsix replacement is a carbon ring that changes the read of the whole rear end, which makes it the cheapest visual change in the range after the heel guard.

Key Features

  • Replaces the outlet trim on the standard DesertX silencer
  • Autoclave carbon, cured at a temperature well above anything the cap sees in service
  • Fits on the original clamp arrangement — the silencer does not have to come off the bike
  • Four surfaces: clear coat, matt, satin and raw
  • Smallest and least expensive of the exhaust-area parts, and the most visible from behind

Heat at the Outlet Is Lower Than People Assume

The end of a silencer is not the hottest part of an exhaust system. Gas has already expanded and cooled through the packing by the time it reaches the outlet, and the cap sits in moving air. That is why a carbon cap is viable here at all, while carbon anywhere near the header would not be.

What the cap does have to cope with is thermal cycling — heating and cooling, repeatedly, for the life of the bike. An autoclave-cured laminate has a low void content, and low void content is what stops moisture getting trapped inside the layup and expanding on the next heat cycle. That is the quiet reason a properly made carbon cap keeps its surface and a cheap one clouds.

Fitment and Compatibility

Ducati DesertX, 2022 to 2026, on the standard silencer outlet. Fitted with the original clamp; a five-minute job with the bike on its stand.

Road Approval

Fullsix publishes no ABE or EC type-approval number for the cap. It is a trim part and does not change the acoustic or emission behaviour of the silencer, but parts mounted on an exhaust are looked at closely at inspection; confirm the position for your registration.

The Easiest Fitting Job in the Range

Of the fourteen Fullsix parts for the DesertX, this is the one that needs the least from you. The cap sits on the silencer outlet and is retained by the original clamp arrangement; the silencer stays on the motorcycle and the exhaust does not have to cool beyond being comfortable to touch. Allow ten minutes and a single hex key.

Two things are worth doing properly. Torque the clamp to the original figure rather than by feel — over-tightening a clamp around a carbon ring is the one way to damage this part during fitting. And check the cap has not shifted after the first few heat cycles, because a clamp that settles slightly is normal and a second check catches it.
