DescriptionThe whole story▼
Fourteen thousand five hundred and eighty revolutions per minute. That is where Akrapovic measured this exhaust's power gain, and it tells you everything about the engine underneath: the R6 is a 600 cc four that does its best work in the last two thousand revs before the limiter.
Key Features
- Gain measured at 14,580 rpm — near the R6's limiter
- 1.0 kg against the standard 2.0 kg: exactly half
- Titanium construction
- 1.2 PS more at 14,580 rpm and 0.6 Nm at 10,750 rpm
- Seventeen model years on one part number
- No road approval — circuit use only
A Two-Kilogram Standard Silencer
Yamaha's original on the R6 weighs only 2 kg, which is remarkably light for a road-legal 600 — the R6 was always built as a race bike with lights, and the exhaust reflects that. Halving 2 kg is a smaller absolute saving than most parts in this catalogue offer.
On a 190 kg motorcycle it is still a kilogram taken from behind the rear axle, which is the position where mass resists direction changes most.
Seventeen Years
Yamaha introduced this R6 generation in 2008, revised the bodywork in 2017, withdrew it from European road sale in 2021 and continued it as the track-only R6 RACE. Through all of that the silencer mounting stayed the same.
One part number covers 2010 to 2026, which on a machine as commonly campaigned in club racing as the R6 is genuinely useful.
Where This Fits in the R6 Range
This is the slip-on. For a complete system Akrapovic builds the Evolution Line S-Y6E9-APT and the Racing Line S-Y6R9-APT, and the track-day link pipe L-Y6SO4/TD/1 lowers the noise of either for circuits with strict limits.
The R6 Is a Track Bike Now
Yamaha stopped selling the R6 for the road in Europe in 2021 and continued it as the R6 RACE — no lights, no mirrors, no number plate bracket. Almost every R6 still ridden hard is a circuit machine, which makes the absence of road approval largely academic here.
A Kilogram, and Where It Comes From
Yamaha's standard silencer weighs 2 kg and sits under the tail unit, behind the rear axle. Weight in that position resists direction changes more than the same mass anywhere else on the motorcycle, which is why a single kilogram from there is worth having.
Half the Weight, Exactly
2.0 kg standard, 1.0 kg fitted. It is rare for the arithmetic to be that clean, and it says something about how little excess Yamaha built into the R6's exhaust in the first place — this was never a Euro-compliance box bolted onto a race bike.
Club Racing's Standard Bike
The R6 has been the default 600 in club racing and trackday paddocks for two decades, and the parts market reflects that. A slip-on with a seventeen-year fitment span is not an accident — Akrapovic keeps it in the catalogue because the machines are still out there being ridden.
Road Approval
None. This product does not meet emission compliance requirements for street or highway use.
