DescriptionThe whole story▼

The only slip-on among the motocross articles in this catalogue, and the least expensive way into an Akrapovic on an RM-Z250. It replaces the silencer and keeps the standard header, which is why it costs roughly half what a complete system does.

Key Features

  • Titanium slip-on silencer for the 2010 to 2018 RM-Z250
  • Meets FIM noise limits — the standard most European clubs measure against
  • Welded bracket rather than a bolted one, and a titanium end cap
  • 2.8 kg instead of 3.1 kg
  • 36.1 PS and 25.9 Nm, against 36.0 and 25.5 standard

What FIM compliance means in practice

Akrapovic states that this system meets FIM noise limits. That is a competition standard rather than a road approval: it governs what a scrutineer measures at a race meeting, not what is legal on a public road. For a rider who enters club events it is the number that decides whether the bike starts.

The system carries no EC or ECE approval and Akrapovic marks it for closed course competition only.

The welded bracket

Akrapovic makes a point of the welded mounting bracket, and on a motocross bike it earns the mention. A bolted bracket has a joint that works loose under vibration and impact; a welded one has nothing to come undone. On a machine that is landed hard several hundred times a day, that is not a detail.

Slip-on or complete system

The gains here are half a horsepower and 300 grams. The Evolution Line for the newer RM-Z250, article S-S2MET6-BNTA, saves 1.1 kg. If your bike is a 2019 or later, that system is the one Akrapovic lists; for the 2010–2018 generation this slip-on is what is available.

What a slip-on can and cannot do

A slip-on replaces the silencer and leaves the header alone. That caps what it can achieve — the header is where most of the tuning happens on a single-cylinder four-stroke — and it is why the figures here are half a horsepower rather than the two the complete systems manage.

What it does deliver is the titanium silencer body, the welded bracket and the FIM-compliant noise level, at roughly half the price of a full system. For a rider who wants Akrapovic build quality on a bike that is not a race weapon, that is a fair trade.

Nine model years of RM-Z250

2010 to 2018. Suzuki carried the RM-Z250 through that span with revisions rather than redesigns, and one silencer covers all of it. A used bike from anywhere in the range takes this part.

From 2019 the picture changes: that generation is served by the Evolution Line S-S2MET6-BNTA, a complete system rather than a slip-on.

Titanium end cap

Akrapovic specifies a titanium end cap rather than an aluminium one. On a motocross silencer the end cap is what hits the ground and what the pressure washer is aimed at, and aluminium goes chalky where titanium does not.

Ease of installation

Akrapovic names ease of installation as one of the reasons for this system, and on a slip-on that is a real claim: the header stays where it is, the standard springs are reused, and the job is a bracket bolt and a clamp rather than a full strip.

Article number

Akrapovic lists this silencer as S-S2SO5-BNTA. It covers nine model years of the RM-Z250.
