DescriptionThe whole story▼
Five newton metres at 5,900 rpm is a lot to find on a boxer that already makes 132. The Akrapovic Slip-On Line (Titanium) S-B12SO23-HAAT for the BMW R 1250 GS takes peak torque from 132.2 Nm to 136.6 Nm and peak power from 123.3 PS to 126.6 PS, and unlike most gains of that size it comes with EC and ECE type approval and a carbon fibre heat shield in the box.
Key Features
- 5.0 Nm more torque at 5,900 rpm and 3.5 PS (2.6 kW) more power at 7,400 rpm — the largest measured gain of any type-approved slip-on in this range
- Titanium muffler outer sleeve closed by a carbon fibre end cap
- Carbon fibre heat shield included rather than sold separately
- 4.8 kg against the standard 5.2 kg: 0.4 kg and 7.7 per cent less
- Compatible with the BMW system cases, so a touring GS stays a touring GS
- EC and ECE type approved — legal on a registered machine with the certificates supplied
- Fits both the R 1250 GS and the taller-tanked GS Adventure without changes
Why the Torque Matters on a GS
A loaded R 1250 GS with luggage, a pillion and a set of knobblies spends most of its life between 3,000 and 6,000 rpm. That is exactly where this system puts its 5.0 Nm, and on a shaft-drive boxer that translates directly into pulling away from a gravel stop without slipping the clutch. The 3.5 PS at the top is the smaller half of the story.
The heat shield is carbon fibre and comes with the exhaust. On the GS that is not decoration: the silencer sits directly under the right-hand pannier rail, and the shield is what keeps a soft bag off the hot section.
Materials
The outer sleeve is titanium, the end cap carbon fibre. Akrapovic describes the combination as race-proven materials, and on this bike the point is durability as much as mass — a GS silencer gets kicked, loaded against and washed more often than a sportbike one, and titanium neither dents as easily as thin steel nor corrodes where the coating gets chipped.
Fitment and Compatibility
S-B12SO23-HAAT covers the BMW R 1250 GS and R 1250 GS Adventure from model year 2019 through 2023. Akrapovic offers two optional headers for this machine, E-B12R7/1 in stainless steel and E-B12E4/1 in titanium; both are separate items, neither is required, and fitting one ends the type approval of the silencer.
The same silencer is also available in a black-coated version under part number S-B12SO23-HAATBL if the darker finish suits the bike better.
Road Approval
EC type approval and ECE type approval, certificates supplied with the exhaust and downloadable here. Fitted on its own, the silencer is a legal replacement part for road use in the European Union and needs no entry in the vehicle documents.
