DescriptionThe whole story▼
Count the lambda sensors on the exhaust. One means this kit; two mean a different one. Honda changed the CB650R for 2024 to meet Euro 5+, adding a second sensor, and Akrapovic splits its fitting kits along that line rather than by model name.
Key Features
- For 2019 to 2023 machines with a single lambda sensor
- Contains an extension harness for the standard lambda cable
- Also contains a lambda plug
- The 2024 model year onwards takes P-HF1571 instead
- Covers the CB650R and the faired CBR650R
The Plug Is the Difference
This kit contains something the later one does not: a lambda plug. That is a blanking plug for a sensor boss left empty when the exhaust changes, and it exists so the exhaust does not draw air in through an open threaded hole.
An unplugged boss leans the mixture the sensor is reading and produces a fault that looks like a fuelling problem. A five-euro plug prevents an afternoon of diagnosis.
One Sensor or Two
Look under the bike rather than at the paperwork. A single threaded boss with one cable running to the loom means this kit. Two means the Euro 5+ machine and P-HF1571.
The registration document usually agrees, but a bike registered at the turn of a model year can be built to either standard, and the hardware never lies.
Geometry, Not Length
Neither end of the circuit moves — the sensor is where Honda screwed it in, the plug is where the loom terminates. What changes is everything between: a different silencer occupies different space, and a cable measured for the factory route comes up short.
Left under tension it degrades quietly. Contacts work loose, water gets in, and a warning light arrives a season later with no apparent link to the exhaust that caused it.
Naked and Faired
Honda's 649 cc four appears as the CB650R roadster and the CBR650R sportsbike. Their exhaust layout is common to both, so a single kit spans five model years and two body styles.
Electrical Only
The box holds wiring, not metalwork. Should the installation also call for a bracket or clamp, those carry their own numbers — worth asking the distributor rather than assuming this covers everything.
Plugs In, Nothing Severed
The harness sits between sensor and loom as a straight insert. No splicing, no soldering, no cut insulation — and on a machine still inside its warranty period, that distinction is worth more than the part costs.
Why the Split Is 2024
Euro 5+ took effect for new type approvals from 2024, and it requires a sensor downstream of the catalytic converter as well as upstream. Honda added the second sensor to the CB650R at that point, and every accessory that touches the exhaust wiring had to be split along the same line.
That is why this kit stops at 2023 and why its successor contains no plug: with two sensors there is no boss left empty.
Road Approval
Not applicable. A harness and a plug carry no emissions or noise approval of their own. What the exhaust may do on the road is decided by the silencer and the catalytic converter.
