DescriptionThe whole story▼

After the off-road-leaning XC came the XR, Triumph's road-biased refresh of the Tiger Explorer for the 2016 model year onward, aimed at riders who wanted the updated chassis without the extra off-road focus of its sibling. Accossato lists the AGS118 for the Tiger Explorer XR across 2016 to 2017, a silver clutch lever in the original form.

Key Features

  • Clutch lever in the original form for the Triumph Tiger Explorer XR
  • Accossato's entry covers 2016 to 2017, ABS included
  • Silver
  • Left-hand lever, hydraulic clutch
  • An original spare parts type rather than a performance part
  • Accossato reports improved resistance after a fall or a collision
  • A single lever per pack
  • No test papers on file; for racing and competition

Construction and Material Quality

Switching from the off-road-leaning XC back to the road-biased XR changes nothing about how Accossato prices this clutch lever: the AGS118 remains one of its original spare parts types, built to the cost of a routine fix. Its outline is taken from the clutch control fitted to the Tiger Explorer XR, so the road-focused riding position this version was built for keeps its usual feel. The manufacturer's resistance-after-damage claim applies here too, without further specification, and none is invented by this text. Silver is the listed colour.

Back to the Road-Biased Trim

Where the XC pointed the Tiger Explorer range towards gravel and loose surfaces, the XR pulled it back towards the kind of riding most owners actually do most of the time: motorways, A-roads and the daily commute, with the occasional longer trip rather than a planned off-road excursion. That shift in emphasis does not change the clutch lever itself, which is shared across the whole Explorer family regardless of trim, but it does change how the control is used day to day, with more sustained motorway riding and fewer of the slow, technical manoeuvres that an XC owner puts the clutch through on loose ground. A rider moving from a road-focused bike to the XR, or the other way round, should find the lever itself entirely familiar even if the riding it supports is different.

Fitment and Compatibility

The road-biased XR shares its clutch lever, the AGS118, with every other variant in this family, and has no original-type brake lever or CNC lever listed of its own. Outside Triumph, the code also covers the Yamaha XJR1300 and the XT1200ZE Super Ténéré.

Road Approval

No approval papers accompany the AGS118, so we cannot state a German ABE or a test mark for it, and the lever is offered for racing and competition use.
